Any Oklahoma Clear Channel Layoffs?

Is Clear Channel axing anyone in OKC or Tulsa today as part of the rumored now confirmed 2nd wave that seems to be starting in the east and moving west?

Active Rock KHBZ/OKLAHOMA CITY, OK PD JEFF "J-ROD" BLACKBURN exits...

Welcome to today's corporate radio where you can be "Metro Personality of the Year" on the 17th of the month and out the damn door on the 28th. Are they on one down there in San Antonio or just about ready to turn it off and go home? Seriously folks... This one takes the cake. Wow. That's about all I can say. Wow.

Not only was J-Rod giving them a #1 morning show but he also was working overtime trying to straighten out the Buzz. Since he took control of that station, it has improved quite a bit from the tool that was running it before him. The tool since moved on to Tulsa to produce lower ratings for them up there, but they cut the guy that worked his butt off doing TWO jobs for them. Real nice.

When's the fire sale? I have a 20. That should pay for one of their signals after a few more of their round of 'cuts'. How about cutting the Mays family and Hogan that created this mess of a company in the first place?

The sooner these companies go chaper 7 and some judge runs the places until the clusters or signals can be sold off at 10 cents on a dollar the better. Corporate radio is finished. Stick a fork in 'em. They are done.

We need some regional and local guys to come in and grab some of these properties for a REASONABLE price at corporate stock-holder expense. The key problem with the industry is the ruthless frequency and property grabs of the past where stupid prices were paid for stations. Now we are paying the price of the stupidity. The sooner we go through the darkest days of chapter 7s and the selling off of properties at a LOSS to the idiots that overpaid, the quicker the industry can heal up and move on with doing something productive. It will not be without more hurtful losses getting to it, but ownership by smaller players with some capital to SPEND on fixing up properties (with talent and other things) is the only way things are going to get better.

J-Rod.... I wish you well bro. You are way too talented and too much of a hard worker to have this happen to you. All the best and to the others that have been ruthlessly cut by a company of little pride.

Any news out of Tulsa? Surely Oklahoma City wasn't the only one and surely there were more layoffs than just one person there. Why is everyone so quiet?

What kind of formats does Clear Channel own in Oklahoma? And if any firings took place, were they replaced by some sort of radio network? I live in a Clear Channel market (albeit outside Oklahoma) and I compared the KUUL playlist to a Minneapolis station--I think the DJs in the QC (western Illinois and eastern Iowa) were replaced by a music network apparently hosted by a "Marty with the party", a Mike Frazier, and a Sherry something....

Iowan, I can't speak for O.K.C. but here in Tulsa CC owns six stations:

KTBT-FM 92.1 - Urban / CHR hybrid - http://www.921thebeat.com
KMOD-FM 97.5 - AOR - http://www.kmod.com
KIZS - FM 101.5 - Hispanic oldies - http://tulsa.lapreciosa.com
KQLL-FM 106.1 - Classic Hits - http://www.kooltulsa.com

KAKC-AM 1300 - sports - http://www.1300kakc.com
KTBZ-AM 1430 - sports - http://www.1430thebuzz.com

I don't know what if any firings took place, so I can't speak to that.

Hope this helps!

CC also owns six stations in OKC:

KHBZ-FM 94.7 - active rock - http://www.947thebuzz.com
KXXY-FM 96.1 - Country - http://www.kxy.com
KTST-FM 101.9 - Country - http://www.thetwister.com
KJYO-FM 102.7 - CHR - http://www.kj103fm.com

KTOK-AM 1000 - News/Talk - http://www.ktok.com
KEBC-AM 1340 - sports - http://www.sportsradio1340.com

Not sure about 92.1's morning show, might be local.

101.5 is La Preciosa, which is all satellite.

Kool 106 runs Ryan Seacrest middays at last check.

KAKC & KTBZ run mostly sports networks; one is Fox & the other is ESPN I think, but I'm not sure which is which.

92.1's morning show is local, though not nearly as good since host Billy Madison took his act to DFW.

Seacrest is on 92.1 on middays I believe, Kool is entirely satellite except for mornings.

KAKC runs ESPN radio basically 100% of the time, KTBZ runs Fox Sports Radio except for a local afternoon show.

I might be wrong, but I think KMOD is the only station in CC's Tulsa cluster that has an all-local schedule.
