My copy of The Ernie Kovacs Collection arrived in the mail Monday, and I promptly spent the next few hours skimming the content. It's pretty impressive.
Especially of interest: the "silent show" that aired in color on NBC. A color kinescope was made of the broadcast, and so for the first time on home video, it's Ernie Kovacs in (somewhat blurry) Living Color (or as the end screen gag indicates beneath the Peacock, in "incompatible color".) Even the Nairobi Trio are there.
One interesting note is that according to the booklet that accompanies the set, in addition to the 1961/1962 monthly ABC specials that made up the bulk of the 1977 PBS retrospective, apparently many of the NBC "Ernie Kovacs Show" broadcasts (though by no means all of them) are still in existence; some 75 shows or so. That's something Antenna TV should consider, in my opinion.
Any other takers here on the board for the box set? I'd love to see some conversation on the subject...
