Any Radio Account Executive Positions Available Out There?

H

Has anyone heard of any quality Account Executive positions here in Atlanta? Clear Channel always has openings, but they are rarely of the quality sort. I heard Dave FM might have a senior level position.

And as usual, I heard two top AE's at Clear Channel just left as well. Has anyone heard anything else?

Try the Salem cluster in Atlanta (WFSH-FM, WGKA-AM, WNIV-AM). I think one of their a.e.s just left recently.

Thanks for responding. Yes, an AE at 104.7 The Fish recently left. The position open there is an entry level position and they've had some turnover with that position. Thanks again for responding.

If you can sell, and you can prove it, I don't really believe it matters if there are opening are not. That might be the case at a place that bills $40 million a year like WSB and V103, but any of the other stations are always on the lookout for good sales talent. It's a relatively low risk proposal for the company anyway. There gonna put you on some kind of draw and then you start generating your own income.

so, my suggestions to you is, look at the station you think might have some potential and you think you might be a good fit for, call the GSM or the GM, and try and get a meeting. Go in there and tell them why you could sell for them. I bet you would find more opportunities that you think.

None in ATL, but I have heard of a senior position at a relatively new local group in middle Georgia for someone who might relocate.

I am always looking for good sales people with possiblity of future Sales Management at Georgia Eagle Broadcasting in Warner Robins. And if you can do mornings and sale, I have an immediate opening at one station. I'll be back in the office Thursday. Find me if you are interested.

Whoo-hooooo! Man, now THAT'S APPEALING!!!
Will I get extra consideration if I empty garbage cans, make coffee and vacuum out the station van?

Thanks Hank, although the candidate in question has been a media buyer, a local radio AE, a national radio AE and has experience working for the Scarborough/Arbitron Companies--he has no experience on-air. And he doesn't have a voice for radio. But if I run across anyone else up-here looking to move south of Macon, I'll post their info for you.

I appreciate that. I know that Clear Channel had a few opening recently, but I am somewhat out of the loop these days. All the best.

I've never understood why a person with contacts and a track record wouldn't just open up his little basement media-buying agency and keep 15% instead of 7.

Because the extra 8 and more gets sucked up in the cost of health insurance and other benefits. If you got anything more than a cold on your medical records in the last couple of years you will pay thru the nose for health insurance for you and your family.

Think about it like this--the person in question doesn't want to buy media. This person doesn't want to own a "third world" agency with one or two flunky accounts. My friend simply wants a stable environment in which to produce. And this seems nearly impossible these days in Atlanta radio.

Well, I guess you answered your initial question.

Not trying to be a wise-guy. But I'm familiar with independent health cost issues and so forth, and paying $700/month with that extra 8 percent most certainly outweighs having a jerk for a boss, 9am Monday sales meetings, fighting the production guy and jocks that dont give a crap about your deadlines.

And you're right, Herb: it's risky and kind of lonely to start out that way, but SO worth it on your sanity when 40 rolls around ;D

And, I'm sorry to say, that the traditional 15% is getting harder & harder to find (at least on accounts of good size).
