Any stations going All Christmas in Nashville?

Are there any stations in the Nashville market that are planning on going All Christmas this year? Last year, Mix 92.9 went All Christmas music for the first time ever on Thanksgiving Day and 94.1 The Fish has gone All Christmas for the past several years, but I haven't listened to either station in several months so I haven't heard if the are both planning on going All Christmas music this year.

Haven't you rode around town and seen the billboard's latley?

Which billboards are you refering to? The only billboards I've noticed lately are the new ones for 102.9 the Buzz and 97.1 WRQQ.

the pisces stations have had paper boards up since October
promoting the all-Christmas music during the holidays.
no date mentioned.

all christmas music stations...

94.1 the fish went all christmas at 5pm tuesday night

mix 929 will go christmas music on thanksgiving day

Personally, I think a commerical AC station going all Xmas is ridiculous. But, it's not my money, it's South Central's so they can do what they want. I could see it if it is a non-comm. Salem doing it with thier weak signals is a joke!

Well, Rocko11, it's SCRG's EXTRA MONEY and extra bump in the ratings by going Christmas. This is a positive move for Mix. Look at the bright side --- no "Escape" by Rupert Holmes for 33 days! But, it'll be the first AC
song out Dec. 26th!

if you look at all the ac formats around the country there all going all christmas during december. this has become a big thing for ac stations in the last three or four years.

i would think that the christian stations would do this more than ac. well i guess maybe the ac stations get tired of there own music too.

I live in the Jackson area, so I can't get the Fish over the air, but I sampled them over the web since the change. From what I've heard it's mostly secular easy listening Christmas music with some CCM mixed in. There's nothing wrong in having the secular music, but considering that this is an AC CCM station it would make sense to have more clean secular AC Christmas music and less easy listening. I'm disappointed in the change.

Well Tibbs2, I don't know who the hell you are, but it's the first damn time we have agreed! The big boys from Evansville have the money, they own the station, and they do what they please. Now positive?, I don't know about that. This is inconsistancy and runs off listeners. Not everyone is a fan of Xmas music and 60 million dollar and the question is how many will return for the finish of the winter book after Dec 25th?

Believe me, I've worked under that pressure and to hell with listeners, it's that arb book that counts! These consulatants constanly coming into a market and changing station's formats, especially a station that has had the same format for many years is crazy. I hate those consultants, killing stations that have had a loyal listener and LOYAL ADVERTISER CLIENTEL! Some are these consultants are young and dumb and think they know all about the world.

Thank goodness I have XM, so I can avoid all this silly crap of commerical FM, hop scotch, format of the day crap. Soon, the FM stations (not just in this market) but in the other top 100 markets will all start sounding like the non-comm college stations of 88.1-91.9, with a bunch of pin head, no talent jocks! I don't know about you, but I've been in this biz for 30 years now and it's just getting worse.

The most talented jock in this country was Larry Lujack (IMHO). We need more guys like him. He took WLS and WCFL (under the careful hands of John Rook, PD) in thier haydays and made them #1 in the books and had the ad people spending the money! To this day, WLS still gets questions why they won't bring back Lujack, and this is mention on thier web site. Well I guess those days are gone for good.

I miss the old days, but I guess I'm getting old as well!

Radio in general has lost the magic that it once had. The guys I loved like John R, Gene Nobles, Jim Kent, Barney Pip, etc, are long gone from us now. Corporate could care less about Larry Lujack, Dick Biondi, John Landdecker, etc. These radio kids of today just see them as old men, ready to be put out to pasture.
I worked in the Chicago Market and got the chance to meet Dick Biondi. What a wonderful, talented man, and the stories he could tell, and I've been told he's still working. Last I heard he was at Oldies station, Magic 104 in Chicago. Former Rock Jock Johnny Holliday (now with ABC Sports) and I stay in touch. Johnny was big on 1010 WINS in 1964-65, until they went all news in April of 65.

There is nobody today in the Nashville Market, or any other market, than could ever beat these guys!

I could go on forever about the old days.

Hey Thanks, now I know where he is, and I hope they will stream audio on the net so I can listen to him.

Oh, I don't think we disagree on anything, just when we got the word on rumors (HA!)

You must like the True Oldies like I do. I miss hearing Bobby Darin, Elvis from the late 50's, Ricky Nelson, etc.

I listened to his Friday PM welcome back on line a couple of weeks ago. He is a class act that is timeless. I am certainly okay
with the music they play, but "my generation" of music is/was the 80's, so what does that tell you? My taste in music
is already, at 44, forgotten and obsolete. Except for Sirius 22, which rocks. Still, gotta love and respect those who paved
the path many years ago. To me, radio is quickly becoming like the cool old Main Streets vs. The Big Box of today. It's
fun to look at, but most people don't wanna take the time or effort to step out of the Big Box Store at the Pre-fab Mall!

I love Christmas music, but I don't want it 24/7 for an entire month. It makes perfect sense that The Fish does it... if I were 92Q, I might go with Christmas Evenings or something, but not all day.

Even with classic and new Christmas music, trying to even (vaguely) fit the format is tough. The number of listeners you bring in doesn't come close to the ones that tune out. Most people get their fill of the Christmas music just from shopping malls. An occasional Christmas song that fits your current format, great. Otherwise, leave it to the Fish, please.

Xmas music on 92Q.....NEVER! Unless it's a Urban/Black Xmas Song, which I'm sure they are playing some. That station has a heavy Black Audience following, especially for 92Q's Quiet Storm, which pulls them numbers and is a mainstay for that station.
