Any stations playing 60's and 70's country?

Hi Folks:

Looking for a 60's & 70's country station online. I was listening to the "Country Legends" radio newtwork but they no longer stream online.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike

Does WBRF Galax, VA stream?

We lost a station that played 60s, 70s and 80s country with the occasional 50s tune, a couple of 90s tunes but no Alan Jackson or Garth, and guaranteed both Hanks each day. And WBRF, which went classic but leaned that way before, has so much more variety and so many songs I never heard. They limit mainstream country to 10 EST to 5 EST, with an outalw show at 5 and bluegrass and religion after that, and a comedy morning show with some music.

Check out (Country 102.5) in Boston (WKLB.COM)
Sunday mornings 8am-Noon Eastern Time.
It's not (Live) It's part Live (Producer Talk)/VoiceOver (Radio Host Talk-Not Live)
Hope you enjoy

I traveled into WBRF's signal range and listened for a total of several hours without having to put up with hot AC garbage from Q-98. How can country radio sound so bad when it could sound this good?

One question: should a DJ say "The late" when referring to every star who is no longer living? On a station like WBRF, that can get kind of tiring.

too many "lates" mentioned everytime a late artist is played is a bad tiresome habit for the listener, or er, the radio critic. this is not much of a problem for most of todays hot new country outlets. hell, most of the manufactured singers they rotate are 20 something year old kids, and full of many more years of life.

then again, back in the 90's on several stations, i often addressed kieth whitley, as "theL8GR8" kieth whitley and did it often. just a personal opinion there gettin' out.

You lookin' for Classic Country? Check out 102.7 in Las Vegas KCYE FM. All requests Sunday Morning 6a/10a. Play 40's 50's 60's
70's and 80's. Call me for a request 702 597 1027

Go to http://ashevillefm.org, as well. I just started a show, there with classic Country. The new show is every Thursday at 4pm Eastern, and can be replayed on the site, anytime.

My station plays alot of older stuff, but it is mixed with newer stuff... anyways, you might like it!

Also, I do go deep into the playlist with 80's and 90's that you haven't heard in quite some time. Just yesterday I had a request for Dolly Parton-Straight Talk, and just when I thought I had every old country song, I had to dig deep for that one.

yep, we just gained a classic country outlet here in WA state, on 10-11-11. KKXA 1520 AM everett/snohomish(facebook info avail at KXA). everett, is just north of the big town of seattle. KKXA is looking at a 50,000 watt future coming, when the t's are crossed and the i's are dotted.

yep, we are happy to have classic country available again for the listening public. it is hoped that it will be a success. it will be interesting to see this station progress with the advertising support, music programming, live air talent, and specialty weekend country music shows....

MICRO-- I'm afraid the answer is little or nada, according to my research. Check the Texas threads where you'll find an ongoing discussion on the same subject, under WHAT DOES THE AMARILLO MARKET NEED (or something like that)? I started a "Classic Country" conversation there, either late Sept or early Oct. Sadly, responses have been mostly pushback, though admittedly, for economically solid reasons.

Most of my Radio work was on country formats, in New Mexico and West Texas (Amarillo). My love for older country tunes and the radio business itself was so great that I worked my Amarillo gig free-gratis in '04. The new owner had just purchased KDJW-AM, a legendary "cowboy music" station, and had no cashflow for payroll. I however was on long-term disability from a work-related injury in consumer products, so I could not accept pay even if offered. Besides, the owner & I were aquainted from business we did in the '70s. Ironically, I am on disability again, only not in TX. Yes, I would happily do it for free again if I could!

Hope to read more on this CLASSIC COUNTRY thread...

Plays a fairly wide spectrum and they will take requests. They own a recording store so they stock lots of country, blue grass and gospel so they always feature what they have to sell. They have a lot of the Heart of Texas recordings that just aren't played elsewhere. The best time to listen is on the weekends during the Chubby Howard show as he features a lot of his own collection. Also they still play vinyl.

Only downside their streamer doesn't always play well with Firefox so you may have to use IE to get them.

For online only (as they don't have the funds to go terrestrial) you can't beat heartland public radio which has a channel devoted to 50s-60s country and another more 70s-80s and it's songs that you normally don't hear anymore

On terrestrial radio, I love a station that seems to be heavy 60s-80s is a country music legend is 50kw KWKH out of Shreveport. It's claim to fame was the Louisiana Hayride that showcased a up and coming Elvis Presley. They are classic country but this being football season, expect games to take over some programming however http://kwkhonline.com/

Another I listen to from time to time is a Amer out in Montana http://www.mighty790.com/pages/843452.php

But I look all over trying to find classic country stations and one of the problems I have found as many stations get very predictable after awile like classic rock format.

Thanks for the info guys.I miss classic country on the radio .With the glut of country stations overplaying current hits over and over.It gets boring. I would love to hear Tammy,Waylon,Conway,Hank,Loretta on the airwaves.Ok For awhile I've been listening to Scott FM internet internet streamer only.for years.nice clean sound of mp3 stream.

It's always a pleasure to hear WBRF when I'm in their area. I still hear songs I never heard that sound good. And others I haven't heard in years.

One was "Candy Kisses" by George Morgan, from 1949. The DJ said everyone knew that song (well, obviously not everyone!) and that George was Lorrie's father.

96.9 WSIG, online at www.969wsig.com plays a good mix of older country. Their station is in Mount Jackson, VA. I work in Winchester, VA and live near Woodstock, VA and listen to them all the time driving to Winchester. I start to lose the signal when I am about a mile from my radio station. FWIW, I also saw an ad they had on the job listings on all access where they were looking for a PD/Air Talent. They are all live from 5 am til midnight. I'd love to be given the chance to program them and I love their music...but I was in radio from 81 til 95 and just back back into it last year, so I doubt they'd be interested in me for that role.

thanks for the info boys...we'll have to check out them stations in the weeks ahead

heres one that i listen to online via CCWiFi every so often, and posted about last year:
WQAH "BIG COUNTRY" 105.7 FM decatur, Alabamafeatures a unique mix of classic country, and a few current bluegrass tunes rotated in. also, the owner kieth abercrombie hosts a kick ass bluegrass show on saturday night, and sunday morning.
while tuned in this morning heard this obscure one, gary stewart-lets forget that were married, and had to go to the websight for identification of a song/artist(not often i get stumped). turned out to be bluegrass artist, claire lynch(i shoulda known) with a country tune called thats what makes you strong. nice simple websight. good station, cool format! check em out. dang i got stumped
