Any thoughts on the spring book?? Surprised to see WRWD down to 7th place. Not sure classic hits 92.9 had the new format in place long enough for a valid ranking. KY 104 and Kiss 1 and 2. HMMMMMMM>>>>>

Thoughts/ opinions??? ??? ???

Surprise to see Mix97 really went up in the Poughkeepsie book.

Out of all the NYC FM stations Hot97 is #1 in the Newburgh/Middletown book. Very shocking to see, seeing how it's one of the hardest stations NYC FM to get here in Orange County with 96.9 and 97.3 right next to it.

Yes they did, the station is poorly executed. It's trying to enter an already crowded adult field in the market and watering down the library with non-testing titles. Just because they're playing some songs you don't hear anywhere else doesn't mean they're the right ones.

OL' RT ran sweepers dissing recent hits like "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" & "Bring Me To Life"; as in, to paraphrase, "You won't hear those here like on other stations". What, you mean those songs thet get played because they test well? Why don't you just tell your audience "You know those songs you really like? Well we left them out!"

Add to that the intrusive, long-winded sweepers that stop the flow of music and the well-known audio problems and I think 92.9 gets what it deserves.

Surprised to see WRWD #7? What book are you looking at? According to Arbitron RMR Qualified, Poughkeepsie Metro, 12+ Monday -Sunday, 6a-Mid the rankings Spring 2007 only are as follows:

Share
WPDH 6.2
WSPK 6.2
WRNQ 5.9
WRWD 5.9
WCZX 5.6
WHUD 5.6
WPKF 5.6
WBWZ 4.4

Okay, so how do you figure WRWD is #7? Besides, 12+ is pretty much useless in the real world. No one buys on 12+, radio stations are targeted at specific demos, and that is where the important ratings are.

I could list more, but you get the picture. For your homework, go back and learn how to read an Arbitron if your going to post about it.

It's not surprising, considering the poor return rate of diaries from people. If you've ever been to a diary review, you'd see the handiwork of the people filling these out. Not exactly Mensa material, in many cases.

Hot 97 could have gotten one monster diary from someone in the right spot and then Arbitron's crappy weighting system puts them at the top.

At the end of the day, the only things that should be judging a station's merits are the people actually using them--not as group, but how you personally like them and how well they work for a business. You can run sweeps saying your Arbitron rated #1, but guess what? THE LISTENERS DON'T CARE and while they punch around on their presets, they'll go to the 20th ranked station if it happens to be playing the song they like.

Radio & Records has WRWD ranked # 7 with a 5.0 share, while Arbitron has those ranked # 6 or tied for # 5 with WHUD if you prefer with a 5.0. I don't know where you got WRWD at #4 with a 5.9, although as this shows some sites have the numbers wrong. R&R has WRWD @ #7 because they list WRRV at #3 with a 6.2, beating their big brother WPDH with a 5.9. Both sites show WRRV/WRRB & WPDH / WPDA as being combined. As you said it’s really just for bragging rights, but since the demographic and hourly breakdowns are not released to the public it’s all we have to discuss.

WBPM showed a slight, perhaps statistical drop in the ratings, proably not what they were looking for, however. One reason is they are a rim shot into Poughkeepsie, so I don’t ever seeing them challenging for a top spot. Another reason was those persistent very annoying audio problems, the drop outs, hiccups and other sound artifacts. For my money I would like to hear more 60’s and less 80’s music .The returning WCBS- FM from the little I have heard, they don’t come in well in Hyde Park, has it about right. But moreover , WBPM has way to many clunkers , obscure deep cuts that were not hits, and most people never heard and may not like .They seem to go through cycles when the music is heavy with there unknown non- hits . When they do I switch stations; I don’t listen to WBPM as much as I did at first. I bet the same applies to many listeners. There is a reason many stations stick to the much derided “safe lists”, they don’t want people switching stations. I am not suggesting Randy stick to 500 or so top songs ,there are many top 10 or so hits over the 35 years ., to give a station a large play list. Play more 60’s music and you won’t have to stretch out the play list, with stuff people never heard of, and don’t like. While it’s unfair to compare the presentation and air personalities between mega market WCBS -FM with a tiny upstate Saugerties station Randy needs to listen to how they mix the music up, that 92.9 can fix. It’s Classic Hits not unknown *its

is there any way to find out the specific demo ratings?

Unfortunately the are copyrighted by Arbitron and not released to the public. They are given to the participating radio stations to present to their sponsors. If someone does discover the demographic breakdowns, I suppose we could share the information via e-mail, I would be interested in what they are too. But posing it here gets your wrist slapped and the post deleted because of the copyright protection.

Did any of the AM stations show up in this book?
What about a few of the FMs not mentioned here so far: The WOLF, WDST, or WKZE-FM?

Thanks for the info! ;D

Good points, mhvradiofan, well taken. I agree about the mix on 92.9; they do play some really obscure album stuff and some stinkers. Thanks for posting the chart so the holier-than-thou Radiojoker could see what I was looking at. Didn't have time to dig deeper that this chart, sparky, and this is what I meant by WRWD showing 7th. You should know what you are talking about, joker, or do you work for WRWD?? If you have been in the radio world you should know that a drop in one book could be an anomaly; I have read on other posts that the country stations across the US have shown a slight downturn in general; but it seems that Country music is more popular than ever and appeals to the younger folks. I don't see anything wrong with WRWD in general; some of their on air talent leaves a little to be desired, IMHO.

Not sure, but I don't think the ratings get posted with stations that don't subscribe to the book....

By the way, Joker, finish YOUR homework before you go back to your job at McDonalds....

Fire away, flameproof suit on :D

What about a few of the FMs not mentioned here so far: The WOLF, WDST, or WKZE-FM?

12+

WKZE-FM 0.6
WKXP 2.1
WDST 1.8
WQQQ 1.5 !

AM
WKIP 1.2
WGHQ 0.6
WBNR 0.9

To name a few not yet mentioned

If WDST had a signal a bit closer to Poughkeepsie I bet it could be within the top 5-6. I would expect WKZE-FM to probably completely disappear from the Poughkeepsie book because of the new translator at 98.3.

Not ranked. But the NYC AM's showed well and the local country's have flipped in rank with VOS passing DNB RWD and ZAD. GGY not a factor this time. PDH/PDA had strong upturn. SUL was solid.
