Any updates on Channel 53 in Galesburg?

It's been a while since I heard anything about the station. By which, I mean it's been a month since the last post, so I might as well post this one. I wonder how they're coming along. Anyway, here are some ideas as to what channel 53 could be:

1. Independent (obviously)
2. America One Network
3. ME-TV
4. The Cool TV
5. The Country Network

Of course, if it plans to have subchannels, it could be any combo of these...

Early last week, the FCC approved the station's application for post-transition operations on channel 8. They now have until 8/16/2012 to build it.

Next step you see will probably be to get a set of call letters.

How can I put this nicely?: Good! I hope they step on it!

Of course, there's another step besides the call letters, although a decade ago, I would've suggested a KQPN or WQPN since the goal at the time was to be affiliated with UPN (which is another step). But that network's gone now, so it'll hafta come up with something else.

Also, it'll need a programming schedule. I suppose it could try and become one of those 24 hour general entertainment networks. Or maybe become affiliated with My Network TV at WBQD's expense. Anyway, I E-mailed KLJB about that deal with Fox Broadcasting that could cost stations the ultimate price (the affiliation), but they later replied that they are in 'good standing' with the network, so that's out in this case. I suppose they could try to become CW Plus when KGCW's contract expires. Other than that, I'm all out of ideas, all I can do at this point is suggest programming NOT currently broadcast in the QCA.

Last question: Would channel 8/53 have any sister stations when it signs on the air?

Come to think about it, I think I remember a QC Times article from 2001 saying that the station would be managed by Second Generation Of Iowa which owned KFXA from Cedar Rapids. That kinda makes them sister stations. Maybe the two could share some programs (like Cookie Jar or production of local news)

UPDATE: Anderson is expected to air on WHBF at 2 P.M. this fall, moving Let's Make A Deal to 9 A.M. at the expense of Family Feud. Maybe the Galesburg station could pick it up when it signs on the air....

Well, it's been a month since the last post of this topic, so here goes. Not much of anything new to report, other than Family Feud will officially be available in the QC September 12th. Apparently, no other station had picked it up for the upcoming fall season yet, so who knows? Maybe the Feud will be available for channel 8/53 to pick up by next summer....

UPDATE: "Family Feud" has been picked up in the Quad Cities: According to qctimes.com, it will be on weekdays at 4pm on Fox 18 followed by "Access Hollywood". However, excluded from both KLJB's and KGCW's schedules are the following programs:

1. "Scrubs"
2. "Star Trek: The Next Generation"

Also, the following programs still haven't been picked/re-picked up yet (you'll probably think I sound like a broken record):

1. "Cookie Jar"
2. "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (according to some sources, this was supposed to return)
3. "South Park"
4. "The Daily Buzz"

Shows displaced in the Quad Cities

Here's a list of the following shows that have been or will soon be displaced in the Quad Cities (some of which have never aired in the first place):

SYNDICATED REPEATS
1. "According To Jim" (to leave KLJB)
2. "Judge Hatchett" (to leave WBQD)
3. "My Wife And Kids" (to leave KGCW)
4. "Reno 911!" (to leave WBQD)
5. "South Park" (displaced since 2010; previously seen on KLJB)
6. "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (to leave KGCW)

FIRST-RUN SYNDICATION
1. "Better"
2. "Judge Karen's Court" (to leave WBQD)
3. "Steven And Chris"
4. "The Daily Buzz" (never aired on any QC station, but aired on KWKB)

[E/I] PROGRAMMING
1. "Beakman's World" (displaced since 2008; previously seen on KLJB)
2. "Cookie Jar Kids' Network" A Package (displaced since 2007; previously seen on KGCW)
3. "Cookie Jar Kids' Network" B Package (displaced since 2007; previously seen on WBQD)
4. "Edgemont"
5. "Mystery Hunters" (to leave KLJB/KGCW)
6. "Whaddyado?" (previously on KLJB)
7. "Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?"
8. "Wild About Animals" (previously on KLJB)
9. "9th Period" (to leave WBQD)

These are all shows that will be displaced in the Quad Cities that channel 53 could pick up when it signs on the air...

It has come to my attention that "My Wife And Kids" and "George Lopez" will be leaving nationwide (in syndicated repeats)

It's been a while since I've heard anything about channel 53...How is the crew doing on the transmitter located in Orion?

It's that time again, when it's supposed to be time for Christmas cheer. However, hope seems to be getting dim with each passing day but without any updates about channel 53...

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Here's to hoping the next one will have a channel 53-1 on the air in the Quad Cities' viewing area...

UPDATE: ME-TV apparently has agreed to affiliate with KGCW, so that's no longer an option for channel 53. Neither is the Live Well Network which is now on channel 4-2. However, RTV has left the WHBF spectrum, so that would be available for channel 53 when it signs on the air. It could air Chicago Bulls telecasts (unless Antenna TV 8.2 picks up those as well as the Cubs and White Sox baseball games)...

Apparently, according to myretrotv.com, Davenport is listed as "coming soon", like there's gonna be a new RTV station in the Quad Cities, ruling that network out as a possibility for channel 53 (unless they're the station being referred to...)

I believe the same company that owns RTV, bought a bunch of formerly owned TBN LPTV stations, including K61HD in Davenport, IA. I think that's the station they are referring to as "coming soon."

Unfortunately, I think when ch. 53 launches, it will be "paid programming" - i.e. infomercials, or a 24 shopping channel, or a 24 hour religious network

You'll never guess who was responsible for adding that "Coming Soon" to that page...
