I have a 5kw Z that's NEVER had a failure ever. The station has had it for a decade. I'd be less inclined to buy a Harris again based on their support limitations, but the beast just keeps working. It's hard to argue with that part of the deal.

And I'll bet that you paid due attention to its installation, its ongoing operational environment, and its preventive maintenance.

Congratulations.

Had a MW-1(Muddy Water) 1kw AM.Pretty good service.Had Variac issue ,hanging up.Best i recall some grease helped. But overall it worked fine..XMTR shack had plenty of cold ac and I always did required maintenance.

Yes RF, I've kept it cool and clean which I believe is the main thing the beast needs. I have heard a few of them fail for others, but it can be mainly traced to overheating at some point in it's life or the loose module issue. A true failsafe that's in a addition to the remote control is a must IMHO for heat protection.

The Z series pallets are now close to a grand now, over that with shipping and tax. The key is keeping them cool for long life. Heat insult will get you in the long run.

The actual pallets (there are 2 in each module) are a little over $500 each...just installed another one yesterday. This site is not Air Conditioned nor will the owner spring for AC. Like they say...ya pay now or ya pay later. They seem to prefer the 'later' option.

For $500, he could get a couple of window units from Walmart to keep it cool.

For $500 he could pay his contract guy to come clean up the site and tighten the modules and save them failing. Most low dollars operaters don't think this way.

Yup. It gets them in trouble every time. The key is getting TWO window units that reset when power fails, and cleaning them every so often. It's something a cheap owner could even handle himself, if they would (that's the trick).

Good points. On both counts guys. I have several clients who would rather spend $50 to save $5. The short sightedness of some never fails to amaze me.
