Any WBOS/Sox news?

The Red Sox hired a consulting firm to review the proposals from Greater Media and Entercom. My guess is that a decision will be announced by opening day at Fenway, April 11th. Should be interesting, especially if the Sox go with Greater Media. Stay tuned....

It was said (on Boston Radio Watch, I think) that WEEI had asked
the Sox to try to make their decision by the start of the
current season...but yes, maybe it'll wait till 4/11 with the
home opener (Sox open on the road, Monday)<P ID="signature">______________

Re: Deadline??

Has anyone heard whether CBS Radio (read: WBZ-1030) would be making a bid??

I'm not sure they would be, since I have read reports of CBS-owned radio stations in some other markets walking away from contracts to carry local radio broadcasts of professional sports teams because the company thought it would not be able to make money by continuing such deals.

One "wild card": Greater Media will have to spin-off one of their five existing FM stations (unless FCC ownership rules are changed in the next couple of months) to accomodate their purchase of WCRB-102.5. It's been speculated all along that WKLB would most likely be the one to get sold-off, with it's call letters and country-music format moving to 102.5.

If the Sox don't make an announcement about a radio home for 2007 by April 11th, it may be a sign the team is looking to buy a station, maybe whatever station Greater Media would have to spin-off in the WCRB purchase.

Entercom has given the Sox an additional two months. This is because both parties have brought in some additional participants into the negotiations. By mid june a deal should be annouced. Personally I am quite confident the SOx owership does not want to get involved in buying a station, if they did the work would have to have started already. It takes more then a year to throw a FM station together.
