Any word on channel numbers when TWC Austin goes all digital?

i thought it suppose to be next year 2011, i guess they trying to speed things up. i haven't heard of anything that's is to suppose happen on oct 1. i know we can't afford multiple boxes.

My mistake. October 1 is the date TWC Austin moves the access channels to digital.

According to Channel Austin (formerly ACTV):
"Effective October 1, 2010 Time Warner Cable customers will need digital equipment such as a digital set-top box, a CableCARD-equipped Unidirectional Digital Cable Product (UDCP), or a digital television (or other device) equipped with a QAM tuner to continue viewing Public, Educational, and Government access (PEG) channels."

Comcast (in Houston and its other markets) is planning to strip down the analog to just local broadcast stations along with the PEG access channels. Subscribers currently with the old analog "Basic" package (65 channels) can get a so-called "Digital Terminal Adapter" (which is a bare bones digital box) at no extra charge to continue receiving their lineup.

Comcast Houston has already dropped the analog versions of some of the basic channels, such as Cartoon Network, AMC, and SyFy in order to start pushing the analog holdouts over to the DTA boxes. Apparently they plan to drop the rest of the non-broadcast analogs within the next year or so.

I remember paying $10 a month for basic cable service--- the locals, access/govt channels, News 8 and WGN. Then it jumped up to near $20. That's when I dropped it. Not worth it.

Isn't that illegal by FCC law?

I think cable companies can get around that by offering free no-frills converter boxes that just work with the basic channel lineup. That way customers can't complain about being charged extra for digital cable. This is what Comcast in Houston is doing as they prepare to drop most of the remaining analog channels.
