Any word (or guesses) on what the next DANCE crossover will be

Well, after DHT gets burned out, which will be a while Yet. Will we see more Dance tracks being worked at Mainstream, or will it be the end. I know Crazy Frog is getting some Mainstream Airplay, but I am talking about a real Dance song, a song we all pretty much agree is a Quality record, LIKE DHT. I hope John Parker, over at robbins has some more Dance Tracks up his sleeve, to work into the mainstream. Any ideas on new tracks that might work at mainstream? Anybody.....I am liking the new Rockell....L.o.v.e... And of course THE BODYROCKERS--I like the way you move is MY FAVORITE right now, and getting some light Modern Rock airplay.

Some possibilities due to some past mainstream success

Ian Van Dahl "Inspiration"
Paris Avenue "I want You"
Amber "Voodoo"

- The next DHT single is a good candidate, whatever it is.

- Narcotic Thrust ("I Like It") still has the ingredients.

- The Roxette track, ("Fading...") now that it's seeing official release and a video-- depending on who it is signed to in the USA.

My comments on tracks mentioned so far in this thread:

> Crazy Frog

Like it or not, it's in second place.

> Rockell....L.o.v.e...

It's not signed

> THE BODYROCKERS--I like the way you move

Maybe, if it can hit at modern rock too.

> Ian Van Dahl "Inspiration"

Robbins has some supertalented people there, so it could happen. However, they'll have to pick ONE great potential crossover track to work next, may need to be something with a stronger commercial recipe.

> Paris Avenue "I want You"

I don't think there is a story there yet.

> Amber "Voodoo"

Not signed, and probably a hard sell to a CHR programmer. Mass appeal isn't there on this track.
______________

I was just taking a shot in the dark there. Typically it seems that as far as dance crossovers go those who have had some crossover success in the past tend to have a better shot at it happening again than an artist with no crossover success. I thought Amber's new record was released by JMCA (& it says that on Party 105's playlist) granted not a major label, but it is a label nonetheless

Perhaps, but only if there were two spots available on a particular CHR station and it was up against a track that was testing 100% the same but without a track record--the chances of that are low.

CHR stations want documentation that a track will not make someone tune out. That is in full disregard of whose voice is on the record.

That's her own label. Mainstream radio is generally not receptive to independent labels. What Robbins is able to do is, by far, the exception--not only with the dance genre, but among all genres.
______________

Your right I didn't realize it was her label. Anyway part of my thinking also could be of me being on Long Island. Z100, WBLI on Long Island & WSPK in Poughkeepsie tend to be some of the more dance friendly CHR's in the country, so their could be some dance congs that will get CHR exposure here, but won't elsewhere or nationwide

I kind of like the remake of Divinals "I Touch Myself" I think its by Stacie D. it seems to have potential

Also while it may not be pure dance music. Gorillaz "Feel Good Inc." has been getting played on Sirius 66 The Beat and the video is on MTV.

Also of interest. WFLZ is playing a remixed version of Papa Roach "Scars" set to a dance beat.
Edited by chrisorlando on 07/25/05 07:09 PM.
