Anybody Catch Pat Cooper--Dropped in Wrap Up Show 3/01

Pat Cooper dropped in the Wrap Up Show and went
on a tear about how he hasn't spoken to Howard for years
because "Howard made Opie and Anthony millionaires."
His theory was that just by bashing them he gave
them attention. He said Opie and Anthony became
millionaires and I got 35 dollars a week. Now,
If I read between the lines, Pat's complaint is about
money. I think when the guys flew-in George Takei
from L.A. and put him up in a nice hotel and paid him
for his appearance during that first week, Pat was probably
thinking, "hey, these guys are finally spending some money
on talent.

I knew who Pat Cooper was prior to his time on Stern because my Italian-American grandparents owned at least one of his comedy albums and he played at a Catskills, NY resort where my family vacationed a few summers. However, most people my age had no idea who Cooper was prior to his Stern appearances. Stern gave Cooper a venue that brought him a whole new audience. I didn't catch the whole interview with Cooper on the wrap-up show, so I am still puzzled as to what his gripe his. What's the 35 dollars a week reference mean? The motivation of a guest is to gain exposure or to plug something. A guest who drops in doesn't receive any money. If Cooper wanted money for his appearances, he's as crazy as he seems.

Can you clarify what Cooper's O&A refernce was about?

As far as Takei goes, Stern has a budget to put together programming and build two stations. In fact, I think the salary figure of 500 million or so, that Stern is reportedly receiving, includes at least part of his programming budget. Even if Cooper should have been paid at CBS/Infinity, it wouldn't be Stern's responsibility to do so. He was only a on-air talent, not management.

Pat was so manic it's hard to tell. Could be a joke.
A loose reference to Howie's 95 dollar a week reference
to when he first started out. Don't know

> Can you clarify what Cooper's O&A refernce was about?

There must have been a period when Howard was bashing
Q and A--whether Pat was on the show at the time
I don't know--and somehow there was some write-ups
in the newspaper about Q and A. Pat claims Q and A got
about two weeks of write-ups in the press because
Howard was bad mouthing them. Which only raised
their stature.

True

I didnt get to listen, but did pat talk about busting his cucumber or busting someones tomatoes? I swear when he would go nuts on the old show, one or both of those lines would come out of his mouth.

..and a note on Q&A, they stunk in terrestrial and now they're stinking up XM, no wonder the companies posting losses.

No. This was Pat unfiltered and uncensored. A lot
of F this and F that. F Howard. And so forth.
Real hostility. But after bashing Howard,
he ends up calling him a genius. And when
Gary asked if he would do the show, he said
yes.

Hopefully they will play this tape sometime
next week. Can't believe they would not do it.
While only about five mintues, the Pat
Cooper appearance was up there in comedic
intensity along with Howard's rant a while
back on Rachel Hunter. Just great
radio.

DAMN! I missed it. Pat Cooper was one of Stern's greatest and funniest guests ever. The fighting with his family members who came on the air was great. As to why he's mad at Howard, who is Cooper not mad at? Hopefully doing the wrap-up show is a step towards coming back to do the Stern show, or maybe even his own show on Howard101. He'd be a real "skivosa" to not do it.

This is a regular part of Pat's shtick. He makes the same complaint to any talk show host he goes on, from Howard Stern all the way down to Pinky Kravitz.

Pat Cooper was outraged that, while O&A were on terrestrial afternoons, Howie had put a gag order on O&A from so much as mentioning Howie or anyone that works for CBS. O&A were ranting and railing against Howie and how fake he was. Instead of Howie going after them like most of the other DJs that challenged Howie, he went and cried to Mel K. and had O&A's show stifled. At the same time, Howie would go on his show talking about how he was being put under the thumb of the FCC, he is all about free speech etc etc.

Pat was mad that he gave O&A so much attention and wasted so much energy on O&A.

I am assuming that your usage of the word "companies" rather than "company's" that you are acknowledging that SIRIUS is also hemmoraging cash. Not being able to see the official 10-K from SIRIUS as of yet, their last filing of their 8-K didn't exactly look like a profit sheet.
