Anybody else hear this??

sent to Clear Channel in Greensboro by a friend's sister:

I was listening to your station this morning when you had a tribute to the 911 victims with Celine Dion singing God Bless America which I thought was appropriate. However, the second song after that was It's Raining Men. That is sick!!! You owe an apology to every listener.
knowsdown: am thinking if this was done intentionally someone needs their clock cleaned! If done by automation, look where we have gone!

That's the kind of thing a computer should be able to protect a human from stupidly doing, by having that song tagged never to be played on the eleventh of September of any year.

Once the name "Clear Channel" is in a sentence....all common sense should be thrown out the window

I am not the least bit surprised by anything they pull. They've been ruining the business of radio and dismantling the public service of broadcasting for two decades

..and of course that was a typo on "protest' should've been to protect... ::)

Yes I too think that the smart programmer would've tagged this song to NOT play at any time on 9/11.

How many songs are really tagged like this?
I'm sure the number of "hope it doesn't happen that way" songs on dates or after certain events is bound to be, well, not that big, but still, it's not a priority.
Most of G105's audience probably wouldn't connect 9/11/01 and "It's Raining Men" anyway....

You mean, the computer doesn't just automatically spew all the music while the jocks just sit and watch it play?

Well we need to make an official list of songs that are verboten at given times and/or seasons.
I don't want any of the four p.d.'s left in the market to make any mistakes and leave any holes unplugged.

Unless verboten is forbidden too. Then change that.

I'm not saying DON'T play the song on the date, just running it butted up against a heartfelt tribute ON the date of a national day of mourning, no matter WHO sang the song, is just plain insensitive and thoughtless. In your car you don't set the cruise and sit back for a nap.

I looked at the playlist on yes.com and if it is correct, the songs weren't back to back. They played Celine, then a Rod Stewart tune, then Weather Girls.

I'm not a PD but in my mind it can work. Not saying it's really the right thing to do, but it's not the end of the world either.

It can be worse. Remember when the John Boy & Billy network ran 9/11 news and segued into "Another One Bites The Dust"?

On 1-28-86 a local station ran a report on the Challenger Explosion and then played Buurned Like A Rocket-Billy Joe Royal.. Yikes!!!

Hi goatboy,
In response to your question, the specific station wasn't named, but I would think since it was CC Greensboro and they played Celine Dion, that it may have been WMAGic 99.5.

Unfortunately for Billy Joe, that was probably the last time anyone played what, if not for frozen O-rings, could and probably would have been a big comeback hit for him.

Actually Billy Joe had some good sized country hits from 86-92 and Rocket was the first of those. Rocket could have been bigger but was a top 10 song.

Did that one about loving people and loving things make it in there? I heard about it from some guy repping him sometime not too long after rocket disappeared from the non-country stations and that was supposed to be his next single.

I think Boardwalk Angel was the follow up..It was not a huge hit at the time but it has become a popular record in the Beach music world over the years.
