They launched at 7am with Haley's "Rock Around the Clock." Listening to the stream right now. All I want to know is how many requests they've already gotten for "Hit the Road Jack?" ;-)

Obviously channel 13 had not been listening to their teases these past
few days. They kept saying Wednesday Morning at 7...duh.
Too bad the signal sucks, especially on the northside...I live in BRipple...
now if they could only simulcast with 950am that would be better and drop
that ESPN stuff....there is more to life than sports...there are OLDIES!!!!
Listened this morning and only heard a few songs that were ever popular
in Indy....perhaps they should have someone consult them who knows this
market from those years and not someone from outside. Makes a big difference.

While Indianapolis does need a classic hits station, this station will not be a factor since it doesn't cover the whole city. Any chance that one of Entercom's stations will pick up the classic hits format?

My dad will be happy that Oldies are back, I just hope he can get the signal in Morgan county, and South West Marion County without too many problems. Is it broadcasting in Stereo, Cuz my Dad wont listen to Oldies in MONO (he,s Picky like that)....Which is silly, because they were not in stereo when they were new, and bumping out your A.M radio on 790 WAKY Louisville....My dad is soooo Old. Lately my dad has resorted to Country and AC.-

DUDE...The classic hits format you are talkin about isnt comin.....Classic Oldies are....You have plenty of Classic hits on JACK+KLU. If you need anything NEW in Indy, Its another CHR-Top 40, or a Dance station, or perhaps a Hybrid DANCE-Top 40.........Sure, you guys are right, Dance wont come to Indy in a Million years, but neither is another Classic Hits station, when we have two, and yet he continues to post about Classic Hits, Over and over and over and over and over and over, untill most of us are sick of reading about it. So Shhhhhhh

Jack and KLU are classic rock stations. They're no different than Q95. Classic rock and classic hits are different formats. Classic hits is based on playlists done by legendary Top-40 stations like WLS in Chicago.

Oh yeah, I always hear Maddona, Duran Duran, Kc-and the sunshine band, and Donna Summer on Classic rock stations, and Ricky Martin too.

Those of you who love the energy of traditional top 40 radio from the 60's and 70's will LOVE Tom Kent. Even though he is syndicated, he brings a LOT of energy and showmanship to his program. I just heard him while on a cross-country trip and he was great! It's not just the music, but how it is presented that counts. He also uses some great old PAMS jingles and stagers throughout the show, as well as occasionally puts on some retromercials - I heard an old 60's Coke commercial the other day while driving through Charleston, W VA.

Also, it's great to see that former Gold 104.5 jocks Steve Rich and Dr. Don Rose have landed back in Indy...they are both class acts and true radio professionals!

As a northside Indy resident, I do lament the lack of a signal. Right now, the only thing serving northern Indy are two 'rimshots', WERK 101.7/104.9 from Muncie and now Gold 95.9 Franklin.

I've never heard Tone Loc, Avril Lavinge, Michelle Branch, and other Artists Jack Play on Q95. So Don't go labeling Jack as a classic rock station. Jack is no where near classic rock. Jack is Classic Hits/Hot AC station or as listed by most people as Variety Hits. KLU is close to classic hits but does have doeses of being classic rock.

I always love hearing when Q95 goes and has that classic from Tone Loc "Wild Thing" or "Funky Cold Medina" on.

Jingle package/Other Observations

A couple of observations........

Just caught the weather jingle and music bed for the new Gold 95.9. They use the same jingle that 104.5 used (from TM's "Heart of Gold", I believe) with a new resing at the end. Pretty much the same logo melody at the end, but it sounds like a tighter, less open, harmony.

There is not much to the top of the hour ID. It sounds similar to what the old Joy 96 must have used - no liners, pretty basic.

Also, a LOT of old Joy 96 commercials still hanging on, which is pretty logical at this point.

I picked up Gold at Fishers pretty strong. However, I was driving a semi with a 3 1/2 foot high antenna mounted on the mirror. Total 12 ft high.

They still have some bugs to work out. Heard the mid-day jock start talking, only to be cut off by the computer playing a liner or jingle...oh well opening day jitters.

I was listening all the way home from work...sounds like a few bugs here and there to work out, but it's good to see the gold jocks return to the air...Heard a self-promo from Scott Records Roddy, and apparently he will be doing evenings. The signal on the eastide at Post Road was nada because of all the RF around that area, but once I was on 465, it ranged from fluttering to fairly solid once I approached Mann Road on the southwest side. Sounds like they need to work on the audio, too...noticed some hum during a bit of dead air, and the levels were all over the place. I'm sure it will improve in time and most of all, hope they are successful with the format and marginal signal.

When I lived at 86th and Township Line Rd, I couldn't get the old WPZZ 95.9 at all. The handful of times I could get it (like when going to the Oaken Barrel in Greenwood!), it was always in mono. Has it gotten any better? It used to be one of the worst, if not the worst, signals in the entire state.

Either that or a new automation system. I know Gold 104.5 used Scott Studios, at least for a little while. Scott will really spoil you.

By the way, the station will be changing calls to WIAU, which will probably mean "Indy's Gold" (Au = Gold on the Periodic Table).

I live near there right now. Most of lack of signal reception is caused by those huge radio/TV antenas right accross the street! Weaker signals have no chance will all the side interference!

However, 5 miles to the north, in Carmel, it came in pretty decent!

Jack is NOT a classic hits station. It's a hodge-podge formatted station.
WKLU IS a classic rock station that's going after the Q95 audience.

> I think Susquehanna Indy uses Enco.

I know some Susquehanna properties use Enco. When looking at the Jack FM studio on their website, though, that computer for all the world looks like it's running the previous version of Scott Studios. I'll be the first to admit that I've not seen Enco, and, from what I've heard, that's probably a good thing! I haven't heard a single positive comment about that system! Is Enco like Maestro in that it's built on Scott Studios code? That could explain why that computer looks so much like Scott Studios.
