Anybody know of one?

Can anyone suggest a radio station stream that closely resembles a progressive rock free form format of years gone by? I'm not really looking for an internet only station, but one with announcers backselling and frontselling the music I am hearing. I'm looking more for an old fashioned AOR format rather than the current AAA style. A radio station that goes deep into album cuts, but plays as wide of a spectrum of rock possible on the airwaves these days. Anybody know of one? I really like WXRT, but even they have changed over the years and most of the time play only the singles off of albums. Thanks for your help.

I would recommend the FM station that hosts my HD channel, 90.5 The Night (WBJB, Lincroft, NJ). They're doing some of the best live-and-local all-around rock radio available today.

(I'd recommend Altrok 90.5 HD2 as well because, y'know, I run it, but it's more of a Modern Rocker, and automated. For now.)

Phew! That is a tough stream to catch. I think I connected once out of 10 tries. The recently played list looks good, and this gets kind of close to what I am looking for. Thank you for offering it up. I would like to listen more, but holy cow, it looks like my chances of connecting are maybe 1 in 10. I'll keep trying though. Anyone else have any other suggestions? Thanks!

Wow. I have to hand it to the folks at 90.5 The Night. There's only a few radio stations out there that make me want to keep listening just to hear what they're going to play next, and that is one of them. Without even realizing it, I listened for 5 hours this morning according to the timer on my media player. I guess it's guys like me that make the stream so hard to catch :) The AAC stream sounds pretty good too, although it seems the level varies a lot.

I think everybody already knows about them, but if you haven't tried Radio Paradise yet you might like them. They do a decent job of combining the eclectic with the tasteful. The announcements are sparse compared to The Night, however. Another good one is WNCW. But they focus more towards the blues/folk/bluegrass side of things, whereas the others are more rock-leaning.

Try the stream of KOZT from the rural North Coast of CA.

A sublime community institution. Tom and Kate have it dialed in for the region. A pleasure to hear, especially if you're listening in the redwood forests.
