Anybody loving the old-school metal on WJRR?

To rockertalker.....sorry dude...I am definately NOT Pat Lynch.....

The show was pretty good Saturday night....BTW..anybody here remember when Pat Lynch used to do overnights on WHTQ??????

Damn, I really miss WDIZ and 95 YNF. At least I got some cool swag, some of it still new. Any bidders?

How about WORJ!!!!!!!......

The way that station sounded, makes the current rock stations in Orlando today sound like Disney music....

WOW, brain fart. What was I thinking, of course Zeta 7, a truly great radio station. Should have had/kept Zeta 4 in Miami, Zeta 7 in Orlando, maybe a Zeta in Jax and Tampa too. Oh well, its ok to dream.........

Yup.....WORJ, Zeta7, WDIZ...basically Orlando's rock stations from 77-83 were balls to the walls kick ass....no wussy music whatsoever, unlike today, HOWEVER, I did enjoy the show Saturday night....NOW...how about a Sunday night show!!!!!!

Anybody remember "The Beatles Last Days????"

As I posted in other subjects on here, I love the 80s hard rock/metal. Now of course JRR wont play that music nonstop but I dont think anyone wants to hear todays rock nonstop with no classics inbetween at times... or 90s alternative nonstop without 80s or todays rock inbetween. Best music rock station out there (in my opinion is wmms.com) out of cleveland, you will hear todays avenge sevenfold to todays Queensryche to yesterdays Led Zepllin and Rush to 80s Skid Row, Poison, Iron Maiden, Pantera to the 90s Pearl Jam and Nirvana.. they play it all and dont close themseleves to 1 generation.. its all ROCK.

Thats what Jrr and all rock stations should play. Most (not all) get tired of hearing the same 90s bands played over and over again dont we?

In conclusion I wish they had 2 nights of Hard Rock and during normal hours,, play this music 2-3 times a hour. 25% New Music, 25% hard rock/metal, 25% 80s classic rock, 25% mid 90s-2007.

Aaaaahhhhh...

WMMS Cleveland......

Now that is a station that has a hell of a history. They were one of the first stations in America to play Rush back in 1974...

WMMS was actually a top 40 station for awhile in the 1980's, and had a hell of a playlist....

BTW, if you wanna hear a station that successfully blends classic rock and new rock, check out KSHE 95 St.Louis.....

Also, if you wanna hear some music that makes Korn sound like Disney, check out KING CRIMSON!!!!!!!!

just a re-post...i wanna make sure my opinion gets across to Mr. DIZ guy...

AHHHHHHHHHHH ENOUGH ENOUGH ENOUGH!!!!!! IMHO, its people like YOU guys who are ruinging "today's radio" for what it is...DIZ guy...KOL...im not sure of your ages...im not sure of your musical likes...and quite frankly, i dont care...how about you old guys and your old ways pass the reigns to a younger generation of programmers and promoters, who know how to program to the younger audience...do i like Metallica? yes...do i like the police, yes...but is it my, or anyone elses job to tell someone that they are WRONG for thinking the way they do? DIZ guy, i know the guys who do the saturday night show...none of them are teens...none of them are on minimum wage, and none of them are punks...well...actually...let me take that back...maybe they ARE punks, to you, but, to a whole audience of like minded people to them, they ARE NOT punks...their listeners probably agree with them and their opinions of Metallica vs the Police...and ya know what!...thats fine with them, me, and the audience...

the work i do is in a format of music WAY beyond my time...you know why the work im doing works? because its an older format of music that I program...get that...a 26 year old "punk kid" who knows what the hell hes doing programming music from the 60s and 70s...and why is that so special? because people who are like me, who grew up listening to the select tunes played on oldies radio in the 80s and 90s rubbed off on me, and i am able to present it to an audience that IS my age...wanna figure out why oldies stations, and AC stations and numerous old stale formats are crashing, because the audience is getting younger, and the programmers are getting OLD OLD OLD!...and why is that?

because of guys who are too old for the format they are programming and listening to, and are trying to strangle-hold radio stations to "preserve heritage", TOTALLY forgetting that the very thing that preserved heratige on these stations, was being cutting edge and new...how do you expect something to be successful if FOSSILS are running radio stations...

its 2008...wanna hear the secret of success in radio in 2008?...

start thinking like its 2008...STOP thinking like its 2007...or any of the 2006 years before that...

and one last note...in a survey that was never done, 78.3574% of men 18-34 (JRR's target) agreed that Metallica was far better than the Police...actually, i take that back...

that was a survey done by 1 18-34 year old man...me...now tell me im a punk kid, DIZguy...

lmfao "yourallcrazy" is funny .. but very true. Cant argue with that. BTW How did you do a pool on Metallica vs Police? You did that after you saw DIZ's comment? Anyways I totally agree that we need someone younger or well indepth with trying NEW things to make Rock happen in the New Dept and the Classic Dept cause ratings for ROCK has always been 3.5-4 and under. Music Directors and upper mangement need to try new things.

Just for fun.. (anyone can do their 12 song format for the hour) of what " I think " would be a cool rock format:

Metallica "ONE"
Avenged Sevenfold "Almost Easy" (recent)
Alter Bridge "Rise Today" (recent)
Poison "Talk Dirty To Me"
Ozzy "No More Tears"
Alcohaulin Azz "Hell Ya" (recent)
Finger Eleven "Paralyzer" (recent)
Skid Row "18 and Life"
Pantera "Cemetary Gates"
Alice in Chains "Would"
Seether "Fake It" (recent)
Sixx A.M. "Life is Beautiful" (recent)

Anyone know of a hard classic rock station in the country that plays this mostly( hair and metal) as classic rock instead of 20 70s bands that most play!

Check out www.933theeagle.com

They are a station out of Northwest Arkansas that has the tendancy to mix in some hair metal with the classics.....especially during the lunch hour.....

You guys are mentioning a ton of groups that used to get a lot of airplay that get ZERO aiplay nowwadays..

Rock radio played THE HELL out of Rainbow from 76-82....even the Graham Bonnett years....

Poison? Sure I like Poison.. "Upstate" just like you want to date the lead singer of the Toadies... I gave my playlist of what I would like to hear played as classic rock.... and so did others... whats yours?

I like both your playlists that whipping boy and bdpop has....Ill tend more towards bdpop but both are cool

While 80's hair metal is not really my thing, I love what WJRR's been doing with the new show on saturday nights. They seem to have a much bigger playlist for that show than I originally thought and I feel the music mixes well. I was pleasently suprised to hear Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Corrosion of Conformity and Faith No More played in there. And again, like Against The Grain, I found that it's more fun to listen to deejays that come off as they genuinely enjoy what they are playing instead of the cookie cutter stuff they do in the afternoons.

Hard on Sat Nights should have a playlist of all the songs they played for that night!! Also do a 2nd night? Or at least a taped-replay the following night.
