Anybody loving the old-school metal on WJRR?

Hard on Sat Nights should have a playlist of all the songs they played for that night!! Also do a 2nd night? Or at least a taped-replay the following night.

Wouldn't it be nice if someone could do a show like UCF used to do on the weekends (when the students were the talent) in the late 80's? Does anyone remember Midnight Metal? I worked at the old Winter Park Albertsons (436 & Aloma) at that time, and we had the radio cranked all night long when that show came on. It scared the hell out of the late night shoppers. ;D

On a good note....it is nice to now work for a station that has live bands, actors, comedians, and so on into the studio on a regular basis to do their thing, and promote their gigs. I have not seen anything like this since the late 70's - early 80's when KMET was the powerhouse rock station in L.A. and the talent at the station was just as big as the bands that would drop by. It gives me hope for the future.

Didn't Pat Lynch host Midnight Metal?????.....

Love how you mentioned KMET....a truly AWESOME radio station.

KMET was a groundbreaker, and the only station that was just as bad ass as KMET in LA was KROQ at the time. Who could forget Jim Ladd!!!!!!!!

Or how about Dr. Demento's original LIVE Sunday night show that only aired in LA!!!!!!!!!!

Radio back then was truly great. I miss it...

Ratings are out and WJRR went up slightly to 3.0 from 2.8 Cant really say this show helped some but probably did. If they did another show on Sunday night. More people would listen in..not everyone can listen 1 day a week like the morning shows that are over 5 days. If we can get another night or even a taped replay on Sunday night... I bet ratings will go closer to 3.5-4.

Also I would hope they do a playlist for their page on Hard on Sat nights.. I emailed dickerman and tommy asking them to show what songs/bands were played that night. I and Im sure others go to certain pages to see what songs they missed. Also people just coming on and hearing the station might want to see what they play and say "WOW I havnt heard that song/bands in?????" and want to listen in.

I think that the chances of finding Jimmy Hoffa are greater than the chances of JRR puting a show on Sunday nights besides "Native Noise"......

JRR has put up there PLAYLIST for Hard On Sat Nights. Go to Jocks section then down to the show. Its on the page. They play a great list of bands that changes every week.

97underground.com this station rocks todays purerock/metal and 80s-early 90s rock/metal,.. this is what JRR and others across america should turn more into once Motley Crue, Warrent, AcDc, Metallica comes out this summer and New bands of today... Avenge Sevenfold,Disturbed,Bullet for my Valentine, and others

WJRR played Black Sabbath yesterday evening...and then some Motley Crue (Too Fast For Love, no less) real late at night...seriously...what is going here. I have also read on another board that JRR is no longer reporting as "alternative" and is now more accurately "active rock."

only reason they played the other MC song cause of the New Song out.. Alot of stations will play the new song out and also pick a few songs from the past from that band. JRR should continue to hit the people with NEW Rock (if they are smart) but also increase the amount per hour of it. I would also hope they throw in 2-3 songs per hour of stuff we dont hear alot each day of..that was big back in the day like what Hard on Sat night does. Check out the link above the previous post... ALL them Hairbands at a 3 day concert event... WOW didnt even see that many hair bands back in the late 80s.

Anyways also for new rock songs/videos... check out the Rock/Classic Rock section of the boards here.

Good call on the new/old Motley scottsvb5 ...I never thought of that. The new Crue is actually decent. I agree about the new rock, more of it would be nice. I loved 90's alternative in the 90's but I turn the station when they play it now.

And that is what is wrong with CC,Cox,CBS radio and the music directors... they keep playing the 90s stuff...thing was..back at the time.. it was a good change from the Hard Rock scene of the 80s..but they kept it sooo long that people are tired of hearing it.. right? People tune into the radio to hear NEW ROCK..as much as possible..also to hear a "couple tunes a hour" from the past...if it was a hair band..metal..or seattle scene.... say 12 songs they play per hour.. 8 should be NEW ROCK...2-3 from the 80s and 1 or 2 from yesterday (a year or 2-3 back)

I personally dig the format/playlist that Power97 uses up in Winnipeg, MB Canada.

These guys are taking what WHTQ plays, some of the stuff WTKS plays, what WJRR plays (and used to play a lot more) and what either WOCL clone-played off JRR or were just playing on their own.. (who really knows) ... and its all perfectly put together (my opinion) on one station. Now granted, I don't see a lot of metal.. but that also means that anti-metalheads aren't being scared off ... and the general rock-hungry public must be accepting this up there. I wish it could work down here. The playlist elements I see are... Not anti-90s, but then enough sprinkled in to cover the 90s but not make you gag. Stuff from late 90's early 2000's that can still work in limited rotation. Stuff from the 70's! (Real classic rock!) And they'll occasionally throw in 80's classic album rock too... But what's key here is .. they play CURRENTS too! (311 song in my head now) ::It's all mixed up, ya dont know what to do!!:: Christ, its like friggin JRR was when it was "the cutting edge of rock" in its earliest exitance, but with classic rock and second-rotation stuff in there too. What, will that just NOT sell down here anymore?? Or is there just not a visible blurp on the Arbitron radar that's compatible with that format to where suits can turn the metrics into money? I know it's Canada...but for crap's sake... they have EVERYTHING mixed together, elements working on other stations. Down here, we have NO situations where one rocker under the same ownership might "one-up" another by doing this. WTKS isn't batting against WJRR for rock listeners, are they? WOCL is gone. WHTQ is in an identity crisis.. (one voiceover imaging look to another in the past two years, one morning show image to another... who are we today?) .. WJRR could very well be going through one now themselves... All I'm wondering is.. why wouldn't this sort of format work here? What do you stand to lose? The listeners to the "we only play this eensy weensy bit of a rock format" style you have now? Where they gonna go??? To the other rock station? WHAT OTHER ROCK STATION? :)

enough of me.

KHTQ (out of Washington state) is 1 of the highest rated Rock formats over the past year...been averaging a 5.6 rating 12+ and they play mostly Hard Rock and Metal with some alternative...thing is...they play a new song every other song..about 6-8 new songs per hour. They keep it new and fresh with a harder side mostly.

They dont play alot of 90s music.. they just keep hitting you with new song after new song and rock hard...the way a rock station people would want to hear..... anyways everyone check them out....http://www.rock945.com/

I totally agree with Byron. I will never understand why there is no new rock/classic rock format down here. Hell, I cannot think of anywhere in the entire STATE of Florida that has a station like that. It is very strange, because stations like this do exist in other areas, and not only that, hell, Lynrd Skynrd, TomPetty, all classic rock greats, hail from Florida.

I think that WJRR sounds a little bit better now than they did a few months back, but WHTQ is a snoozefest of major proportions...

I think that it would've been very interesting to see what would've happenned if O-Rock had gone to a new rock/classic rock format...

DIZ there is classic rock of your tastes in every city in the USA almost... every city has a classic rock station....but I agree that everyone has their own selective bands they like to hear.... but the real question should be... no classic metal radio station.....

JRR has gone downhill some over the past month... playing weezer is pure 90s alt...not todays pure rock-metal thats been coming out over the past 3-6 months.. I feel weezer, smashing punk, and most 90s bands need to go to a alternative only station....but then again..I think wjrr is a alternative station...oh well nm...haha....but thats why the ratings arnt above 3.5+ like KHTQ in Spokane,WA

They don't stream online, but WRUF-FM Rock104 (103.7) out of Gainesville plays the classic/new mix the last few posts have been talking about, although their '90s library is still quite evident. They've been successful for years, almost always top five 12+, sometimes top two. All that with rookie/novice student jocks (except Lex & Terry in mornings).

I definately agree that WJRR should drop alot of the 90's Weezer stuff and mix some old hair metal into the mix along with the new metal they play. That would be pretty interesting.

BTW, even though WRUF does not stream online, you can actually pick them up late at night every now and then. They are a very good station and I believe that they have been on the air for about 25 years...

They have a very strong signal, you can drive way into Georgia and still pick them up...

I don't like how CC has turned "local radio" into sydicated BS." That was their line against getting satellite. There is no "local" anymore at CC.

LARRY THE CABLE GUY - God Bless Him - If he would have started under Linda Byrd, he'd have never been the star he is! He got his start at JRR and so would have many others had they not been fired for saving corporate dollars.

Larry also knows this and I'm certain in breaks his heart. It's too bad the people running the place, don't appreciate talent or employees, they only care about the bottom line.

It's brutal there. Here's the pecking order, John Hogan, Tom Shurr, Linda Byrd and Sam Nein. All have zero artist talent except accouting skills. We would never have had Larry the Cable Guy if they were running the show back in those days.

It is so SAD, but all we can do is hope they will be replaced SOON!!!

Congrats to WJRR for the 4.7 ratings .....Hard on Sat night and them keeping to a harder side of rock has done this..... also throwing in many New Songs to hear brings in people!! 98rock suxs!!
