Hmmm...looks like FNX is taking aim at another station in town.

NO DJs, NO MONEY WASTED, NO IDEA WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN EXCEPT LESS BLAH BLAH BLAH ALL WEEKEND LONG

I'm totally lost on what FNX is trying to do. Are they trying to form a rivalry between the two lowest rated rock stations in Boston, the other being WBOS? Or are they attacking WBCN's talk-heavy rock format, which does not run any talk on the weekends anyway?

I'm thinking going after WBOS. Take a look at WBOS' website. They use the "less blah blah blah" (they use that on the air too). The FNX graphic also uses WBOS' logo style, font, and colors. Wonder what they are trying to do?

They're obviously going after 'BOS, but I don't understand why, unless they have some evidence that more people have been tuning to 'BOS very recently since they changed format. The two stations go for the same demo and have a lot of musical crossover. Perhaps WFNX is afraid that WBOS (bigger signal, no DJ chatter) may steal what audience they have?

In a perfect world, or maybe MY perfect world, WFNX would switch to 92.9 and leave 101.7 open to a format not widely covered in Boston, say tropical or urban AC. It is kind of silly that there are three "alternative" (I guess) stations in Boston, although I prefer WFNX out of the three stations.

With this weekend promotion, it leaves WFNX open to being sued by Greater Media for copyright infringement. Not good for a station floating just below a 1-share and, IIRC, doing worse than Rock 101 WGIR-FM/Manchester, NH?

Maybe they should do a block party weekend. Seriously though for a station that "nobody" listens to, there is a lot of conversation on this board about WFNX. Give them some credit, they have certainly taken some programming risks over the past year and it should start to pay off. It might not happen today or even tomorrow, but it will. They've done a great job bringing in and grooming a new morning show and the back and forth with the afternoon show is nice to hear. There is heritage in the mid day and musical knowledge at night, they don't voicetrack and have a decent weekend staff. Overall I would say they are a very good local and alternative radio station. Personally I'd love the opportunity to work there at some point, but I'm probably to old for the demo.

So why don't we all stop being so catty and let them succeed or fail without us.

Yeah, it's definately a knock at WBOS in terms of colors/font. But WBOS' slogan, with the less blah-blah-blah, is a direct attack at the talk shows (O&A, T&R, and Pats coverage) on WBCN. Maybe FNX is just trying to kill two birds with one stone?

they've been doing speciality weekends all year. Last week was "hear it once" where they didnt repeat any songs. The week before was all leftover I think. Im sure next week will be something else. I think they are just trying to do some different stuff on weekends
