Anybody on today's Journal articles

I really enjoyed those articles and hope that more of these Low level stations can get a foot in and really change the atmosphere of weak mainstream local radio we are currently subjected to. I actually wasted my time this weekend listening to KKOB, KISS, and Wild and I'm curious do they all use the same exact loop? The only difference is that KKOB has that pop tag technology, and Wild is doing the thousand songs without a commercial. ::) Other than that... It is the same sort of weak radio that local residents have come to expect.

Why is it only Hutton is not afraid of these local low level stations, while Clear and Citadel rally against it? Man it would be nice to hear refreshing radio. To hear local radio and radio made for what it is. So much opportunity for one and all!

Good luck to Mr. Aragon and all those trying to change the lame skills displayed by the current crop of PD's and GM's displayed by "the big boys"

KOB FM and KKSS use the pop tag. Wild is wild.
Question, if the audience is being served their music..with a minimum of talk and commercials..what can be done that is new? Getting one's choice of music has never been easier than with today's technology.

Your right, the lower level stations have the perfect opportunity to do something
that might attract a bigger audience, with innovative programming.

Don Davis is doing just fine with two AM's that bill nicely..but not a big ratings player.
There are others that pay the bills and make a little coin.

I love hearing new and innovative radio, but do you really think that these LPFM's are going to attract any 'real' talent in Programming to New Mexico? The pickings are already slim IMO. If so, what kind of of talent would be attracted to work for a LPFM? What are the benefits opposed to the High Powered FM?

How about the talent that is already here? I've been in radio for a few years and no matter whether it is AM or FM everybody at that station believes they are they are the only person that is "good enough" for that job ::). On air talent is even worse in their beliefs (though that is also a good thing.)

Anyway, radio needs to wise up with the times. The internet, internet radio, podcasting, blogging, web building, itunes, and the like are giving millions of regular every day people the opportunity to put their news and opinions "over the air". These people are sharpening their skills on a daily basis. They have excitement and passion for what they are doing and will continue to get better at it.

These are the people that are going to turn radio upside down once given the shot.

I absolutely agree that a lot of the talent has the belief that they are the only one suited for the job they are doing, until they are let go and they come to the realization that EVERYBODY is replaceable, EVERYBODY. I have been seeing a trend with radio company's embracing podcasting, blogging etc look at CC I know for a fact one of there biggest priority's is 'web hits' where listeners can sign up to be a part of their 'local' type myspace page (which is only in selected markets at this point). And I think embracing it is one of the several ways local free radio will keep it's head above water because listeners now have the entertainment button at their disposal 24/7 with internet, cell phones etc. I think by having more LPFM's is just another avenue of entertainment (which is not a bad thing) but I don't foresee it affecting the High Power's anytime soon. Would I like to see it stir something up? Of course! I just don't have faith in the talent pool that we have.

And with the big conglomerates of the world I don't think they are very concerned about it. Just my opinion.
