Anybody remember when ?

Radio stations used to make school closing announcements ?

Seems to be a growing trend that stations are referring listeners to their websites to get school cancellations and delays.
Has airtime become so expensive that they can't afford to use the time ?

Bridgport's WICC and Norwalk/Stamford duo WNLK/WSTC (note: all AM stations) do school closing announcements multiple times an hour. I think it's more than likely that FM's may shy away from them, but I really didn't do an in-depth listen. Once I find out I don't have to go in I snap off the radio and hit the sheets for some extra sack time.

While not in CT, WKNE-FM in Keene, NH does it.

Also I believe I've heard WTIC-FM also do cancellations.

Last time I checked WRCH, WZMX, WTIC, WKSS, WWYZ, WHCN, WDRC all do closings and delays as does News/Talk 1080 WTIC. Not sure if WCCC does or not. And WPHH doesn't from what I heard.

The I-(need a beer)95 WRKI morning show does cancellations when the situation requires. They're good. Otherwise, stick to AM. No way you can expect these automated pieces of Connecticut crap to respond to anything other than the almighty dollar.

Did you ever stop to think about how looooong and lame school closings are???
NOBODY cares about it after they hear their school yet you think people wanna sit through another 300 schools and curves for women locations...
PLEASE! every tv station shows em along the bottom of the screen and every radio station has a website that can list all colsings....it has NOTHING to do w/ the almighty dollar...if you think about it stations could sell a sponsorship for closings and make MORE money...
Maybe morning shows have better things to do besides the tedious delay and cancell announcements...
You people amuse me with your silly little comments about CT radio sucking sooo much. What's the problem??? Your CSB certificate didn't get you the 6 figure BIG GIG you thought it would??

I don't really believe you read this before hitting the "post" button. You might want to re-read it.

Connecticut radio as whole doesn't suck, just a selected few stations. Most likely due to some jackass over paid shmuck who sits in an office not even listening to what is playing on their station, making decisions on what the listeners like and don't like.
Thus comes the idea of "lets play the same song every 20 minutes until we kill it" makes me glad that in my profession I get new music at the same time programers get it,sometimes sooner. So I get to spin it for about 3 weeks before it makes it to the "kill it" list.
