ANYBODY WATCH THE PBS "JOHNNY CARSON" ON AMERICAN MASTERS

The best retrospective of Carson ever. Kudos to PBS for this.

I have always liked Carson, but I like PBS even more for this respectful and thorough evaluation of his career.

I think it must be used as a time-shift channel overnights, because WGBY-TV 57-3 of Springfield, MA, which is their WGBY Kids channel, re-aired the Carson special early this morning.

(I can only get WGBY-TV and their subchannels with my limited basic Comcast service here in New Britain, CT. I find it strange that we get WGBY-TV 57-1 in HD, considering it's technically an out-of-market station.)

I wonder if they showed any of his 1963 appearance on his idol Jack Benny's show. In the
episode Benny wonders how Carson can have his own show when he doesn't really perform
in the traditional sense. Carson showed him that he indeed had a range of performing skills,
from card tricks to playing the drums to dancing to "Ballin' the Jack."
...no, they didn't, but there was a brief clip of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUd1-_91YTk Johnny's appearance on The Jack Benny Program in 1955, when The Johnny Carson Show was running on Thursday nights on CBS...

In following up on the PBS program I looked up information on Jody Wolcott Carson, Johnny's first wife. A story written in 1990 had her living in NYC and financially destitute and, at the time, suing Johnny for more money. I couldn't find much more on her at all.

Wondering what became of her later and if she is still alive?

I found the show on my local PBS stations sub channel yesterday. I missed it Monday night. When I did watch it I felt sadden at the end when they got to his death. Then in the credits they ran a Carnac segment. The answer was: siskombah. What is the sound a sheep makes when it explodes? Johnny left me laughing as it should be.
