Anyone care to discuss the Chill Channel

Okay we are 2 weeks into the new Chill channel. I am not hooked. I find the XM Chill channel very boring compared to other chill available on the internet. I must admit I was hoping for much better. I have heard Sirius' version and in my opinion, it is much better. They (XM) are hung up on a few artists and to much down tempo stuff. Having been an avid listener of KLBU Blu 102.9 for the last 2 years, XM is missing the boat. It is lacking energy in fact it has ZERO energy. I find myself writing very little down from XM to go and find yet I have a pad of paper next to my computer that is full of music I have heard on Blu 102. Wake us up XM! KLBU set the bar, now who wants to raise it?

I like it. It's not supposed to have energy..it's a CHILL channel. Heard some good ones...Thievery Corporation, Art of Noise.

Be nice to hear some Orbital, Sasha, Future Sound of London, The Orb.
______________

I have to say that I really like the chill channel. Have been a huge fan of smooth jazz for years but found that it was getting repetitive. Was turned onto to chill from my son who's a college senior and suggested that I give the format a listen. He is very familar with the sounds and I have become extremely pleased with what they are playing. He tells me about many of the artists that XM plays. Have found that it is an addtional bond between us.

KLBU Santa Fe. 102.9FM. Blu 102. Only full time Chill radio station I ever heard. I think its the only chill station in the US. Listening to KLBU is also the first time I ever learned about chill.

I first heard about Chill when Emmis's CD 101.9 (WQCD) in New York was Chill. Too bad the station doesn't stream on the internet. CD 101.9 has since changed to Smooth Jazz. I got a chance to listen to Chill on Sirius, and while it's ok, it's rather repetitious. I don't know about what's all played on XM's Chill, but here are some artists that are heard on Sirius's Chill:

Morcheeba: heard Wonders Never Cease and another song by them.
Anything by Moby
Anything by Bjork
Sarah McLaughlin: Possession
Anything by Dido, though I don't like the remix version of Here with me, which doesn't have the haunting tempo that the original has, which I feel would fit Chill better than the version Sirius plays
Anything by Coldplay
Petshop Boys: West End Girls
A remix version of Seals & Crofts Summer Breeze
Mark Morrison's Return of the Mack (I don't know if this song really fits Chill, especially the original version that is played)
Anything by Enigma
Some of Enya's music might fit Chill, though I have yet to hear her yet on Chill.
There's more, but I don't remember all who's on Chill.

XM Chill is different. I haven't heard 1 mainstream song on there yet. Most of the music is from the other side of the globe.

Check out KLBU at www.blu1029.com which will give you an idea.

I often refer to this type of chill as "porn music" because the cable system covered up the audio of Playboy TV with it back in the 90s. I was able to hear it over the system's FM hookup.

note to the NAB..satellite radio..its worth paying for!!

I have to agree that thus far I like Sirius Chill better, but am pleased the genre has made it to XM. I'm sure they got plenty of e-mails asking for it.
I have heard less mainstream chill on XM, which I know may be a good thing.
Less Morcheeba, less Air (I discovered "Kissing" on Sirius, where it was a frequent recurrent).

I've checked out XM Chill a few times over the past few weeks since it debuted. Been pretty impressed with it. But you guys where mentioning "Blu 102.9" out of Santa Fe, so I decided to listen for a few minutes while writing this reply. I've been impressed by the couple songs I've heard. It would be nice to see how this format would do in other cities. But then again, when you have XM, who cares how a format does elsewhere, when you have basically any format you could ask for on XM. (I just hope XM doesn't go with it's plan to take The Torch off the radio side for internet only in a few weeks.)

Blu is very nice... i'm also not feeling xm's chill but its has improved a bitI am and huge fan of Chill Ambient and Downtempo music
