anyone care to predict the next to flip?

The NY ratings are as crappy as 99x's were. With far less signals in this market and no rock format it made sense to make them Rock. Oh yeah throw in crappy morning shows vs. a proven commodity like TRG and match that with the older skewing format and it is a no-brainer. Sean Demery is the one who screwed you. He doesn't leave they don't go looking for a morning show quite yet. The way things were going though it proably would have happened this summer anyway.

If you can't count them you can't sell them. Review 100.5 playlist on Yes.com 21 of the top 31 songs are taraight from 99x's playlist. Throw in the nuber one song which is the newREM song and you know 99x would have played that to death. This list is dominated by the established "alt" bands from 99x best days. Chili Peppers, Nirvana, STP, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Alice in chains

like i said in anothr thread playing a few good songs isnt gonna make me sit thru the 70s crap and 80s metal. i dont see where u r getting 21 / 31 songs on yes.com. when i go there it sticks me in a chat room ?
it dont matter tho. u can say what u want i still believe there should be an alt station here. something fr those of us NOT in their 40s tryng to relive their 20s cuz some of us R in their 20s. we deserve 2 have a station 2.
i got 2 friends in iraq rite now, u want to tell them when / IF they get 2 come home that they were good enough 2 sacrifice their life for u but their not good enough 2 have 1 radio station to listen 2? wtf.

Yet you want people in their l40's and 50's as jocks. i.e. Steve Craig, Jimmy Barron and Grandma Fram.

So now all station flips our unpatriotic if a listener is currently serving in Iraq?

no tibbs , im saying not having 1 single station playing new rock is a huge F**K U to my generation. specificaly is a huge FU to white guys college and high school. cuz spanish stations, rap stations we still got them. but not 1 playing just new rock and alt. its like all PDs just said FU to me and my friends and every1 my age. its more then not having 99x, we dont have even 1 station now. nothing. just dead air or ur music from whn U were my age.not fair.

OK, you want fair? Let's make it fair. The oldies fans went 3 years without a station. That means, to be fair, you can start your bitc-in in March, 2011. Until then, you know what to do.

Project 961 is geared for your generation. So are many other stations. "Alternative" music is not your constitutional right.

Heck, Rock 100.5 is playing a lot more 90s alt :p and a lot less 80s hair :'( than when they first flipped.

You'll probably have to learn the art of button-pushing (like us semi-old pharts who grew up in the 70s and 80s and can't do any one-stop-shopping either) among Dave, Project, Album 88, WREK, and Rock 100.5 to find your music. Don't know your location but I would add WPUP Bulldog 103.7 out of Athens/Royston to that set as well. There's your six presets.

I have to hit Dave for 80s new wave, River for 70s and 80s AOR, B98.5 for 80s top 40/CHR, Rock 100.5 for 80s AOR (including heavy metal and hair metal), Majic 102.9 for 70s AM Gold, and True Oldies for 60s oldies and 70s AM Gold.

Someone could bring in an 80s station (heck, Cox could bring in the Point), but I could still find reason to complain--not enough new wave, not enough hair metal, not enough really obscure Album 88-back-in-the-80s stuff, etc. Point does OK (not spectacular) with new wave but they play little hair.

BTW, the only "fair" you get in this world comes with cotton candy, Ferris wheels, and no free rides...

Look into your crystal ball and tell me: which station is barely hanging on and would consider a flip this year? Dave? I know they just brought in a morning show, but I'm not "feeling it" if you know what I mean. And to what format? A competitor for B98.5, maybe?
I may be missing it, but in those 49 words can you show me the qualification that the flip had to matter? If you say it's implied I'm not seeing it, either.

OK, OK, just being facetious. Needed some humor.

Gotta get on a soapbox for a minute...

IMO, the only stations being mentioned in this thread are second-tier Atlanta stations which can't (and won't) break into the top tier without several stations making a move at once. Look at the ratings. The second-tier stations start at The Bull and go down the list. The argument could be made about the list starting with Star 94 or True Oldies, but it doesn't really matter...

My view on it is that Atlanta radio is not that much different than radio in, say, Birmingham. Same demographics, same types of stations in the top tier. Everybody else is just a blip on the radar, compared to the group of about 9 stations who get the ratings and the revenue.

Gimmicky formats will keep these second-tier stations in the second tier. Somebody mentioned Cox's "The Point" format...folks it was successful in Birmingham for about 5 minutes. This is not a knock against Cox, I respect what they do and you can see they have the top stations in ATL/BHM, but it is a gimmicky format which loses its novelty quickly.

Atlanta is crying out for more diversification on the radio, and what you are getting is low-rated stations battling other low-rated stations for more low ratings. I think the market will have to look to New York or Los Angeles for guidance on what kind of formats to bring to the city now.

Cheers :)

Does Atlanta have an 'Adult Hits' (aka JACK-FM) formatted station?

LA's JACK-FM (KCBS-FM) is #1 in adults 25-54 again among English language stations.
