Anyone do lunch with KFNX?

Anyone familiar with Inside Politics with Clancy Jayne on 1100 from noon - 1:00 pm broadcasting from Tom's Tavern in downtown Phx?
Jayne is a former legislator who is proud that Jay Lawrence said he makes Russell Pearce look like a moderate...
Any idea what he must pay for an hour?
Any idea how KFNX ranks? (Below 30, no?)
How many stations in our market? 40-ish?
And, potentially, how many listeners to KFNX for noon-hour?
Snide remarks always enjoyed, but seriously, I need to know this info for a report if anyone can assist, please.
Thank you!

Sorry, haven't heard of Clancy Jayne nor do I listen to KFNX from noon to 1:00 pm.

I've never heard the show. The only way I know about it is because of the big banner that advertises the show that is hanging near the entrance to Tom's Tavern. I saw it last week when I walked past the place.

I haven't been able to do lunch with KFNX since the "Colon Blow" infomercials started airing. Something about food and KFNX (among other things) that just don't go well together.

at least they are trying something different.....KGO used to broadcast from the purle onion in SF.....a lot of radio stations used to broadcast from hotels....because they had live bands..that could be put on the air...maybe they will have a live band at tom's on friday,,,I'm glad politiicans hang out at bars..it keeps them from doing to much damage

Inside Politics with Clancy Jayne started in January of 2006 as a Saturday show (2:00pm to 4:00pm). On November 1st, we moved to the Noon to 1:00pm time slot on KFNX 1100AM Monday thru Friday. You would be surprised who listens to the show? All the political insiders in Arizona are listening, we know this from the amount of e-mails we receive each week. We have not had a ratings book since the move to M-F but our listeners were over 100,000 on the Saturday show...

Jeff, it doesn't matter how good it is, KFNX's ratings are just slightly above those of static.

Kind of hard to get listeners when you are preceeded by colon cleanser and patriot gold scam salesmen.

I'll give it a try next week. My all time talk show preference was Sam Steiger. He'll be tough to beat, with his wit and knowledge about Arizona politics. He was never afraid to say what was on his mind.

I'll put up with the colon cleansers and gold hucksters......as long as they are not on this show!

Steiger was wonderful, not always the most exciting show on the air, but Sam is the kind of guy you would love to have a few beers with back in the days...

Legend City and all,

Thank You for listening. I think your all going to enjoy the show. Clancy holds no punches, like Sam Steiger used to. Clancy lets them all have it, just stay tuned. December is going to be a barnburner of a month!

I don't listen.

KFNX and its idiot owner Frances Battaglia lost me when he re siezed control over what goes on the station.

I don't patronize KFNX, in fact, they don't even deserve to have a permit to broadcast.

Thank you for responding, Jeff. I will aim to catch the show.
Are you able to tell me if Tom's Tavern sponsors the entire hour, please?

if you don't like the station put a letter into the Public File, cc: it to the FCC in Washington.
Go check out the Public File and see what others have put on record. Also, find out when their
license is up for renewal, put a coalition together, and buy it! if you have found wrongdoing.

As a newcomer/non-industry guy to this site, it has been very interesting, informative and entertaining to check in periodically on radio in Phoenix. Yes, I did catch KFNX the day after the election and Clancy Jayne was fine. I may check in again.

I guess in true KFNX form, the top of the hour news was either 1 or 2 hours behind. They were talking about going live to a newsconference where Rumsfeld was going to resign-- I had just been listening on another station to the newsconference live during the previous hour.. Guess KFNX had their CNN radio feed goofed up :-\

Jeff....loyalty is admirable, and I don't think there's a thing wrong with Clancy's show...it's as good as anything else on talk radio, which is to say generally stultifyingbut you drank the Kool-Aid, boy.

Some math help for you:

Radio CUME listening audience size for all stations in America 12+ M-Sun 6A-MID=1461771

1 rating point in Phoenix market=29,385

KFNX doesn't measure a 1 anywhere...so 100,000 listeners? Maybe per year, and that's a stretch.

Have Jason Stone explain to you how ratings work.

That article is typical of the Scott Fybush types who dismissively view anything brokered as beneath them and their overpaid consultants that are ruining the radio business. They act as if "actively seeking out" clients is some menacing scandal - what do you call a sales department?

KJCB:

Ok. your point is made. However, AirChic asked a specific question. I answered her. My point - doesn't quality programming count for anything? Isn't that what we are all about? Delivering a quality product to our listeners? No matter the station - shouldn't that be the objective of every professional that works in radio - to deliver a quality product to their listening audience? Well, that is not the objective of KFNX. Why would you provide valuable air time to a huckster selling " colon blow" or devoting drivetime afternoon's to a mortgage show?

There is only one reason - and one reason only - and that is the owner of KFNX is not driven to deliver quality programming. He couldn't care less about what he puts out over the air. He has a station and will put anything "repeat" anything out over the airwaves - so long as the host is willing to fork over some money to go on the air- the B man will grab it -just like he did before they ran him out of Rhode Island.

Building an audience? Not at KFNX. That is a non-issue. So long as your $$$$$ check clears - you can have a show on the air at KFNX tomorrow.

Sales force? What sales force? At KFNX the B man is the sales force. You don't need a sales force when you sit in your office accepting $$$$$ from wannabees that need air time to sell their mortgages, trinkets and colon blow.

Air Chic is a swell gal. In fact, Eco here thinks she that she is the babe of the airwaves. She asked for a truthful answer KJCB - so son't try to dazzle her with your brilliance - impress her with the truth.

Eco, you miss a key point. Focus on the big picture rather than just one station; all stations are in business to make a profit. Folks like yourself believe that every station should be forced to have the formats you approve of, and whichever ones can't make a profit doing so, well that's just too bad. It's a bit arrogant to suggest that you define "quality programming". To the seniors who older the "colon blow" you speak of, it is quality programming, because they listened and responded. You think infomercial agencies send out checks for charitable purposes?

And if quality programming is defined by ratings, does that mean Christmas music on KEZ is the most quality programming?

If you'd like to suggest a viable format for the various brokered stations around the country that would make money, go ahead. I'll be waiting... 1190 hasn't been a paytoilet for well over a year now, and still has no ratings, less than stellar billing, and no buzz as a Spanish talk station (of course, the demise of Radiovisa should have suggested something to them).
