I've been leaving my communications receiver set on the visual carrier of TV channel 3 (61.250 MHz) or TV channel 6 (83.250 MHz) in USB mode. Even with just a small whip antenna, I am hearing many beats that sound like meteor scatter or sporadic-e....as many as 2 or 3 per minute in the late afternoon (I'm next to a southwesterly facing window, so I assume this is where the hotter weather is).
Anyone, maybe, tried this with a discone antenna mounted way up high in the clear? I wish I had a place to do this, using several radios tuned to the various frequencies....many stations use offset frequencies, so I'd try 61.240, 61.250 and 61.260 simultaneously, for instance. I've got channels 2, 4 and 5 locally, so I only use 3 and 6 here.
Hey, any old FCC Monitoring Stations up for government surplus bid sale? ;D
