Anyone ever experience

E skip or tropo while Traveling? If so tell us your story. I had one cool thing happen. My Aunt and Uncle came up from Mississippi two years ago and while they were here we went out to eat that night and as we were on our way back to my Parents house I was getting a station called K Love on 94.7. It was from Jackson MS! I scanned the dial and all these stations were coming in from MS! I couldn't believe it and my Uncle couldn't either. He was like I am hearing my hometown stations here in the U.P. of Michigan. My Uncle never thought it was possible to hear stations from that far away and I told him it is in the summer when E skip happens.

Many a time when I would visit my brother in northern California in the 70s and 80s, I would get E Skip on TV.

One time, it was as far as Texas. It was '86 or '87 and it was on his little hand held TV. I still remember hearing the theme song from the end of the show 'Cheers' and then there were a couple of local commercials as the station mixed with a couple other ones.

Which station? I'd say maybe KSAN 3, KPRC 2, but we don't know if you can't tell us which channel! ;)

Anyway, the 6/25/13 E-skip opening was actually first captured coming back from a Hood Canal oyster/clamming trip. On US-101 west of Olympia I heard KZIU 101.9 Weston, OR/KFFM 107.3 Yakima etc which was either knife edge off of Mt Rainier, or Tropo, but it was very interesting hearing "My Life" by Billy Joel on 103.5 for a few minutes. It wasn't CHQM as Vancouver stations were NOT coming in. Also a Smooth Jazz or B/EZ station on 105.5 (prob KVSV in KS) was fading in with some smooth jazz version of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" by Kenny G. As we went up toward DuPont (relative had to get a coffee!), I took out the radio and started to tune around. I found 98.5 KHAQ Maxwell NE clear as a bell, at least three different 93.7's, and a rocker on 92.9 (I'm almost sure it was KTGL in Beatrice NE but Murphy's law got to me as the station faded out at ID time!)

I also noted KHNE 89.1, KRNE 91.5 // each other, plus an UNID NET 91.1 // KHNE/KRNE, which was either KUCV or KTNE (can't ID this one). Skip faded out 30mi away from home, but it was fun to hear E-skip in the car finally...

We had driven to FL sometime in the late 80's, staying at the cousins' place in New Port Richey, and did the tourism/souvenir thing. I'd go to a ball game (Phillies-Blue Jays were fairly nearby) ; she'd get a tan in the backyard.

Those years I had been real rusty with FM DX. Now, I was never that adept at it in the first place. It had been strictly AM for me. Yet, there I am, tooling north on the sprawling U.S. 19 between Clearwater and NPRichey with the FM dial, getting something called Power 96 from Louisiana plus another Louisiana station I've forgotten.

Of course, there are many 100,000 watters down that way, so I might have gotten a couple. Is that usual for Florida's Gulf Coast, Gar ? Or was I getting tropo reception ? I don't think there's normally that much water-path enhancement on FM ; I could be wrong.

Picked up WTCM south of Lansing a few years ago and also picked them up in Flushing last year (also got WSRT and quite a few Grand Rapids stations in Flushing)
