Several years before Casey Kasem started American Top 40, WNYW on 15440 kHz from Scituate, MA had a Saturday Countdown. How many of you ever listened to it? How many songs were on it? I seem to remember just 20 positions.
For those not familiar, WNYW was Radio New York Worldwide, which operated under that call 1966-73. The station had previously been WRUL and traced its history back to 1927. The operation was sold to Family Radio in 1973 and the call flipped to WYFR. The transmitters were moved to Okeechobee, Florida. The station now operates as WRMI.
I remember WNYW and recall tuning across the countdown show in that era but have no recollection of how many songs it featured.
