Anyone have information on an ancient WKBW car contest from 1961???

11/6/13

Hello, I do hope anyone can help me. I've just purchased a 1961 Lincoln Continental convertible from Buffalo NY. It has been told to me that this particular car was given away in a WKBW Radio contest in 1960. As the story goes, the brand new Lincoln was won by a woman who promptly sold the car to a Dr. John Argue. This man owned it for decades before selling it to Mr. Norval Goodman, a champion motorcycle racer and war hero in 1975.

Can you assist me if locating and information and or pictures of this event? I do not know the exact date, but it was a new 1961 car. Thank you in advance.

Some websites you might try, each has a fair amount of 'KB trivia:

There was a WKBW Radio tribute site but it appears to have been taken down.

To anyone interested in car trivia, the 1958-60 Lincolns are - and were in their day - pretty universally acknowledged as being among the ugliest cars of all time. They were poor sellers and so were rare even when new.

The 1961 was an all new design, timeless and breathtaking, an instant buzz item and worthy alternative to the now-instantly-dated-although-all-new-as-well Cadillac.

IOW, 'KB was plugged right into the Pop Culture of that day when they gave away this Lincoln Continental.

Old Car Brochures is an addictive website if you're a car person...and of course it was a 1963 Presidential Limo version of that very car in which JFK was assassinated 50 years ago.
