Anyone Heard this???

Here's what I said.

"the average talk show host in markets 50-100 makes $50M per year."

I never stated that "the average host in the market where she works (West Palm Beach) is paid $50,000 a year."

Well, you must have meant that Ratsy was paid in Mozambian 'Metical's', right? ;)

It makes sense. She's 'less then average' on air, so why roll out the big green?

Honestly, Baroosk, you just don't know when to give up! This only proves that

A: Rhodes has been 'less then honest' in her description of her early career, and you bought it,or
B: you don't really 'know' her, probably never even 'met' her, and really you are clueless about the whole thing.

I promise you Rhodes made at least twice the median pay for a rookie cop,a new prison guard, or a grade school teacher in West Palm Beach. Which means she was anything but 'low paid talent'.

Keep trying! :D

I'm not going to "give up" as long as wingnuts like you keep twisting the only statements I made regarding Randi Rhodes salary in WPB. Once again all I said is that she was "by her own statements" a low paid host and that the industry average for talk show hosts in markets 50-100 is $50M per year.

I promise you Rhodes made at least twice the median pay for a rookie cop,a new prison guard, or a grade school teacher in West Palm Beach. Which means she was anything but 'low paid talent'.

Okay, let's see some proof.

sigh. The median income salary for existing police officers in the State of Florida is $39,000. The median income salary for WPB is $35,500. Notice the term 'median'. That means some get paid 'more' and some ( like rookies ) get 'less'. So, a rookie cop is most likely gettin around 28-30G's a year.

Rhodes was on a Clear Channel station following the big money dawg, Rush. Nobody is going to put someone on the air in that market to follow the cash cow and pay them less then 60G's, Baroosk. So I will defend my statement that Ratsy was, in fact making more then a rookie cop.

http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Police_or_Sheriff's_Patrol_Officer/Salary

or a grade school teacher

http://www.payscale.com/research/US/City=West_Palm_Beach/Salary

or a 'corrections' officer.

Gee, I'm wondering just how 'well' you know Ratsy. ::)

I'm not going to "give up" as long as wingnuts like you keep twisting the only statements I made regarding Randi Rhodes salary in WPB.

Once again, let's look at what you said, and when you said it, shall we?

On November 23, 2006, at 03:19:49 pm you said:

"that's why she worked for over ten years as a low paid talk host in West Palm Beach"

At that time, you didn't issue any disclaimers or qualifiers. You didn't include a disclaimer like "by her own statements". That quote above is the sum total of what you first said.

Then, in response to a specific question that I posed to you on November 23, 2006 at 09:20:18 pm, which was, "Do you know what she made, or are you just blowing smoke?", your response posted on November 23, 2006 at 10:16:08 pm was "West Palm Beach is market #75 According to industry sources a talk show hosts in markets 50-100 make about 50M per year". Again, that was your entire reply, with no weasel words or disclaimers, such as what you posted on November 25, 2006 at 06:36:14 pm after two of us called you on what you said. Then, and only then, did you back pedal on what you actually said with "I never said that Randi was making $50M when she was on WJNO in WPB. I only said that the average salary for talk show hosts in markets 50 to 100 is $50M year. Some hosts get more and others less."

And when I pointed out that your statement about what average talk show hosts in a given size market make which you made in direct response to a direct question about whether or not you knew how much Ms. Rhodes made implied that what you were posting was, in fact, the answer to the question you were asked, you again tried to weasel your way out of it by trying to poke holes in my logic. Again, you refused to simply admit that you spoke out of turn and made statements you can't back up by using a counterattack.

Now, Today at 01:12:25 pm you repeated your claim that you knew Ms. Rhodes personally.

So, here's a challenge to you. Follow the same requirement that you posted today at 02:07:20 pm? To quote your own words, "Okay, let's see some proof." Provide us some sort of proof that you know Ms. Rhodes personally. And that means personally, and not just that you met her once. Show us some proof that you actually know her personally. Or, admit that you're just blowing smoke and go back to running your blog about some convict and his dog. Do one or the other, but spare us all another attempt to weasel out of standing by what you've said. Forget trying to spin what you said. Either prove it or admit that it was just so much hot air.

I will answer all of your questions if you answer one of mine. Prove that if y + z =x than x = y and x = z

How ironic and predictable that the guy who screams for so much 'proof' has none to offer himself. ::)

Ev and RR...You win, you're right, I give up, uncle!!

Now, was telling the truth like that really so difficult? I bet you feel better now that you've gotten that off of your chest.

A list serve is reporting that Randi Rhodes is leaving Air America effective immediatly. Anyone hear anything on this? This is just a rumor at this point. That's why it is ommited from the title. Again, JUST A RUMOR.

Anyone???

Clouseau

Maybe you should spend less time underwater Jacques. Maybe the bends is killing your brain cells.
It's a rumour. You don't believe it. And you keep it out of the headline so I had to read the dumb post to find out what you are talking about. That's 30 seconds I won't get back.

Congratulations. Your post is the best one in this discussion. It quickly sinks from here on.

I only said that the average salary for talk show hosts in markets 50 to 100 is $50M year.

$50 MILLION??!!

I hope I'm reading that wrong.

I can't beleive that you people wasted so much time arguing about how much Randi Rhodes' salary may or may not have been in WPB. What's worse....I can't beleive that I wasted so much time reading all of that BS.

I can't beleive that you people wasted so much time arguing about how much Randi Rhodes' salary may or may not have been in WPB.

Trust me, it wasn't that much time. I'm a fast typist. And the argument wasn't over her salary so much as it was about one frequent poster in here who constantly demands that other posters must post proof, yet you frequently makes statements that he cannot or will not back up with proof.

The gist of it boiled down to the contention that it would be understandable if Ms. Rhodes were to stop working for an employer who could not pay her, if that were indeed the situation. But the aforementioned poster couldn't accept that it made sense in principle that if she wasn't going to be paid, she might well chose to stop working, and he presented as "proof" some allegations that he couldn't support or defend.

Do you think it is believable that Ms. Rhodes might stop working if she were not getting paid?

As for wasting time, if one enjoys expressing oneself in forums like these, then the time spent enjoying oneself is hardly wasted, is it?

these threads could be alot shorter if certain types quit asking for proof of the obvious. ;)

If reading and responding to posts in forums such as this is fun, then how is having lots of posts in long threads a bad thing?

Who cares what Randi was making in WPB? Or what Ed Schultz made at KFGO? Or what Rush made as jock in Pittsburgh? Or what Radio_Realist makes voicetracking overnites in Ishpeming?

What Randi's couple of years at Air America have done for her is solidify her career as a nationally distributed talk show host. Whether her next stop is Jones or NPR or EIB (!) she's going to be pulling down major league ching.

She's not my favorite--I want to have Stephanie Miller's babies--but Randi is unquestionably a kick-ass air talent who will continue to be a major player in talk radio for many years to come. The move to AA was great career decision. It put her on the national stage.

I would agree with you that of the bunch, I think Miller has the most possibility to become a true 'A' list P/L Talker. Randi ( while more of a radio pro ) is always going to be 'B' list on the left, such as other right wing 'B' listers like Ingraham, etc. It comes across in her bitterness. ;)

But you bring up a good question.

Will her next gig be a lateral move in terms of $$$, will she get paid more or less?

With the bankruptcy of AAR, would Jones ( or any other syndicators ) be willing to pay what AAR doled out? NPR doesn't have the budget, and the EIB wouldn't scare off thier corporate sponsors.

I suppose it'll depend on how good a negotiator her agent is. But AA's financials were out of her control--lotta great air talents have worked for people who couldn't balance a checkbook.

So she hit .300 with 40 home runs & 125 RBI's at Kansas City and now she's a free agent. Think the Red Sox and Yanks will wave KC money at her? Not likely. She should do just fine.

actually you analogy works better thus: So she hit .300 with 40 home runs & 125 RBI's at Kansas City ( West Palm Beach ) when the Yankees aquired her as a free agent, with a huge signing bonus.

The following year, the Yankees ( AAR ) didn't even make the playoffs, and now she's a free agent again.

Would any other franchise put out Yankee $$ to aquire her now?

She's not going to go hungry, but I wonder if the failure off AAR means she get's less $$$ this time around?

The following year, the Yankees ( AAR ) didn't even make the playoffs, and now she's a free agent again.

The thing is, she's not a baseball player, she's a talk show host. One has to wonder if the people who were on the air on Air America when Air America couldn't make enough profit to stay in business will be seen as the failures who caused Air America's downfall.

Remember, radio is a branch of show business. When a movie fails at the box office, the industry blames the actors. When a TV show fails in the ratings, the industry blames the actors. When a radio show or network fails in the ratings, why wouldn't the industry blame the talent. Why should radio be that much different? If the air talent at Air America wasn't good enough for Air America to succeed (and that's how the corporate suits will see it, whether that's accurate or not), how much demand would there be for that air talent? Might Rhodes and the rest of the Air America air staff be perceived as losers by their association with Air America?
