evnlee, AA--like it or not--is/was the majors. Not the high majors (NY, Boston, the Cards/Tigers) but the low majors (the Royals). That's why the analogy works. She's not coming from WJNO; she's coming from network radio.

radio_realist, for decades great radio talent has been "discovered" working for organizations that couldn't get their sh*t together--in programming, in marketing, or in finances. Talent, itself, is a very subjective concept. Millions love Rush and listen to him daily and devotedly. Others think he's a failed jock (yes, Jeff Christie) who finally found a schtick.

Great bar conversation. Too bad there's no liquor here. Think I'll head for the bar. Y'all can fight it out.

West Palm Beach is market #75 According to industry sources a talk show hosts in markets 50-100 make about 50M per year

Huh? According to Radio and Records, West Palm Beach is market #46, not #75. So what do talk show hosts make in markets 25-50? Or even 40-50?

No dispute on that score. However, the common scenario for such discoveries is someone who is seriously underemployed, such as an actor in a regional theatre company getting discovered and landing a starring role in a major movie. Or a singer in a New Jersey bar band landing a national record contract. It's much more rare for someone to become a star in some venture that fails to go on to becoming a bigger star elsewhere. Though, I must admit that does sometimes happen. You'll note my post about the possibility of Ms. Rhodes and the rest of the Air America staff being perceived as the losers who caused Air America to fail was very carefully phrased to indicate I was discussing a possibility, not a probability.

The thing is, as Jeff Christie, Limbaugh was never a top name or nationally known talent. Rhodes is no longer a struggling young rising star. She (and the rest of her Air America cohorts) are in a precarious position. If they make the right career moves, they might come out of this even better off than they are know. If they make the wrong moves, then they better be prepared with some sort of career Plan B to fall back on.
