anyone here run hobby stations?

hello you all. I'm wondering if anyone runs hobby stations? I have a few transmitters i own. now mind you, there not even 1 watt. but i run my ipod transmitter on 92.7. I have a wild plannet radio dj that broadcasts on 1610 am and a mobile blackbox v6000 fm transmitter i run at times as well. I play music and talk about things. Now mind you, nothing i'm doing is illegal. all the transmitters i run comply with part 15 of the fcc rules. so there perfectly legal. if your in altamonte in the weathers field subdivision you can maybe get a bit of my stations. i'm not gonna give my street out on here. but i'm wondering if anyone does what i do? i've had this am 1610 thing since 2000 when it came out. Ok, this should be an interesting topic.

so i guess no one does this? if you do and you live in the orlando area, here are a few pointers on freqs.
88.1 is good unless you get toward daytona then you have weaz z 88.3s station on there.
92.7 works well all the time. There is nothing on 92.7 in the area. the closest things that are on that freq are either westpalm or jacksonville.
those are the main ones i have tried. when finding a freq to use, i recommend using a car radio because car radios have the best reception and they will give you a good idea if the freq is clear to use or not.
90.3 is decent as well. also, 93.9 is good. 93.5 used to be good untill some christian came on there.

;D Back in the 70's I did in Gainesville at the Uof F but we ran about 1200 watts on 98.7! Hell yea we were illegal and the #1 station in Gainesville WZAP!

Ran a lp am station in St.pete when I was a kid.... eeon's ago ... cud almost say it was powered by coal..lol.. but it was a blast... my best friend and I did a 3:30 to 10 P top 40 format... copying WLCY and WALT....I for get the power out put and the antenna was on his roof lol..........we had some kind of FCC permission as I remember his folks driving us to Tampa to the FCC..... we did that until high school... and then I went to work ( Internship ) at WLCY lol.........this was '59 or so.

Whew...well even though it is a felony in Florida and the statute of limitations has not expired... ;D yes I did run a little 5 watt station from my bedroom on 95.9. I guess the best description of the format was public radio with the classical replaced by modern rock. I lived near the Wal-Mart in Kissimmee, and when WSJZ didn't cut through I could get a signal at the 535/I-4 interchange. I was sooo proud of myself that I had a little station with a 2 mile (at best) radius that could potentially reach thousands.

Long live 95.9 the Buzz!!!!

I think Austin's point of Part 15 type broadcasting was missed. Something that is done mostly on the AM band because of the greater range that can be obtained as compared to FM (adhering to the FCC guidelines). The Community Radio section of this site has a good section when it comes to Community Radio and those that practice it. It has helped me immensely.

I have ran a Part 15 AM system for over a year. I am most likely going to abandon terrestrial and move to webcast (have been podcasting close to two years)...debating on doing this instead of investing on a Hamilton Rangemaster or Procaster xmitter. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. I have kept detailed accounts of my experiments with grounding and loaded coil antennas...etc and I am more than happy to share.

Another good site for Part 15/Community Radio information:

Austin,

I have a Part 15 AM just east of Tallahassee, Fla. In itself, it's not all that exciting, but it
gives the folks stuck in the Wal-Mart parking lot some oldies/variety to listen to on 1610.

I do a classic Christian music show on there on Sunday mornings, an hour of which is syndicated out to a few other stations.

Here's my station's website: http://www.musicbox1610.com

I'm a regular on the Community Radio board here at Radio-Info.

thank you guys for all your stories and info. unfortunatly i would have no time to asselble a kit or what have you. may do it one day. I'd like to get one of those ramzy kits. they sound nice. You should check out the mobile blackbox v6000 transmitter. the only bad thing is is it broadvats a mono signal but the signal is vary strong. not sure of the power but i know it's less than a watt. i have the antena that came with it in the window of my room right now. it's like 10 feet long. it gets to the end of my street but that's about it. i love my wild plannet radio DJ. the only thing is, i can not buy it anymore. i don't know what i'm going to do when it breaks. I wished someone still sold it. guess i'll have to ebay or something.

I built a ramsey 25mw FM 100 transmitter for my kids and their friends broadcasting on 96.7FM. They have been doing this now for 3 years and keep getting better and better at it every year. We are now up to 35 kids that come over and get a hand on the equipment, interviews, and live broadcasts at different events that they get invited too. It's a great fun and educational thing for them to do. Check them out at www.wkid967fm.com They also stream to net. Take care and have fun with your part 15 system!

sounds like fun. my stations are on 1610 with the wild plannet dj, my itrip with my ipod runs on 92.7 the majority of the time, my v6000 fm transmitter goes on 88.1 and 90.3 depending on the day. that's all i run. I have a belcan fm transmitter but the signal is vary weak so i will not mension it here. That's al the signals i will note on for myself.

the mobile blackbox transmitters in stereo. my friend did a little hacking and made it do it. it goes like 450 feet. it's freaking cool. i think he called a stereo extender or something. i'll find out. thanks. feel free to email me with questions. [email protected]

thx.
