Anyone here that worked at WWUN in the 65-75 era?

Some of those translators work OK on a car radio, but you can't pick them up on a cheap radio in the house. And most of the house radio's theses days are crap.

You might want to check out the Sangean WR-11 as a tabletop radio. It gets some pretty good reviews. I went the HD route, so I have a Sangean HDR-18 for the tabletop action.

Thanks, Pat3: It is easy to predict what will happen: nothing. These issues are longstanding and no progress has been made during my tenure in the business (60 years). Look for more so called "solutions"
and "changes" but the "status quo" will remain the same....as I say ...SAD. JBI

I don't come here very often, but I was a part of it- 1972, 1973-1974, and again in 1977 under different ownership. Didn't make much money but had tons of fun.

1 thing i recall about 1590 wwun, was the proliferation of Bumper Stickers, around town, (a simple black & white) as I rcall, they were Everywhere

W-1 Fun Guy was around town looking for the stickers...if he spotted one on your car, he wrote your tag number. Every hour, a number was announced on the air...if you heard yours and called within 30 minutes..you won a jackpot...no winner increased prize until somebody won...prize never got over $150...proof that lots of folks were listening!

I was a little kid when W-1 was top 40, but I remember when It was country in the early or mid 70's. Seems like I remember hearing a lot of "trucker" and CB radio tunes, but that may have been what the other stations were playing. I didn't listen to it on a regular basis until it went back to top 40 as WYIG (Y-16), but shortly afterwards it went back to country as WCCL until Miss 103 came out and took all their listeners. After they dropped the country it was a sort of oldies in the daytime and more rock at night. I wonder what happened to the transmitter after it went silent. It sounded good in AM stereo when it was WZRX

It went country in August, 1974. Last Top 40 voice on W1 was the late Don Brady, and the last song was Peter Paul and Mary's "I Dig Rock And Roll Music."

Wow... forgot I was a member here... I worked WWUN and Y-16 for a short time both times! I was there with Don when it played the last song... it is also where a portion of my 45rpm collection cane from!!! Listened to John David Spangler, worked with David Blair and Uncle Walt... I was a young whippersnapper!
