Anyone in Bakersfield ever see KUZZ with such a low 12+ number?

The station is in the 5's for the first time that I can remember. Does this say anything about country music or was it books going to Hispanic listeners?

Look at the other stations in the top 5. This was an extremely Latino-influenced book. Also, Kern County's population is now 49.2% Latino, according to the 2010 census.

One element to be factored into KUZZ's ratings is the quality of its news produce. For the more than twenty years that Mark Howell was news director, KUZZ consistently scooped
NewsTalker KERN. Has the quality of KUZZ news slipped since Howell retired a year or so ago? Alot of people who don't listen to Country have still turned to KUZZ for breaking news over the years. Has KERN's product improved, slipped or held its own since Rachel Legan's days as News Director? Clear Channel couldn't make its one time KGET- AM work as a newstalker
The late BuckOwens threw plenty of money at KUZZ News...paying reporters in the mid twenty thousand dollar range..

KUZZ has been on a steady decline since their big kiss in Summer. Rare to see two straight down books (its not just 12+). The station just sounds OLD, musically and stationality. They are not bulletproof as they have been the last decade. May be time for a fresh new set of eyes and ideas. Hard to change folks that have been doing exactly the same thing for 20 years.

KERN's new Dial position might have something to do with it

I seriously doubt that the quality of news is responsible for KUZZ's downturn in ratings. While Ms Grant is no Mark Howell, she does a very good newscast, and KUZZ still puts in a strong effort that is well beyond anyone on radio (including KERN...which is still struggling around a 1 share).

The issue is KUZZ is trying to please everyone and pleasing no one. The music mix features new music...surrounded by 20 year old songs from the early 90s. They're so scared of losing the upper demo, yet they aren't appealing to the younger demo. Just because you have no competition doesn't mean you shouldn't try harder. And while Gradowitz is an institution...the morning show doesn't relate to anyone under the age of 40 who is now in the TMZ, American Idol, Facebook and Twitter age.
