Anyone In Tampa/St. Pete Hiring?

Wait a second.

Severence package?

You mean, I was supposed to get something on my way out the door?!?

I'd have been happy to get a cart and a box..you can sell those!

Well Dan,

It's still radio so if you can be screwed out of something, they'll try. I'm sure you'll be trafficking in stolen goods very soon. What a pleasure to draw you into the open... I've given you a lot of written ribbing here but I actually enjoyed your show and was a frequent listener. Although you needed some polish, I never wanted to see you lose it, but since you did I piled on. Ironically, it's a gift you share. I don't expect you to post all of your job prospects for Ohio's Masterdarke and Sarasota sister to snatch up, but I hope you have a few options in town knowing you are a native Florida cracker and full-blooded Tampan. It's time to pull a few strings and maybe change pads.

Good Luck,

Naughty

radio is a small family, sir.

your reputation for how you get along with others is to be considered when there are so many radio professionals searching for jobs

You're tellin' me... I've fired many social butterflies who sucked wind on air.

What about WFLA? Is it just Jack, Tedd and Sharon and all syn? I'd love to sit in for a week down there some day -- what used to be a great way to make friends in a market -- but even those opps are drying up, and at FLA when you have three morning hosts why would you ever need to bring in an out-of-market jock for a week. Some day ...

Take the bull by the horns bucko' - e-mail AM Tampa Bay and invite yourself - the worst that could happen is you get a cold shoulder and a sunny vacation - may all your wet dreams come true.

Naughty -- yeah, no kidding. Ted, Jack and Sharon are solid, and occasionally great, and maintain good numbers. They deserve what they get. I will, soon enough, send an aircheck and a note to WFLA. You never know when they might be in a bind and need a replacement for a week. I have lived on and off in Tampa for 24 years. I know the market, the people, the history and think it would be a good fit.

Most radio in Fla has degenerated to a bldg with 6 stations operated from 6 cubicles and/or syndication....you know.."its 10 minutes to the hour" from some talker in Duluth. One bright spot is WVLG 640 in The Villages (between Ocala and Leesburg). This station operates with 24hr local talent. Has a big market sound due to the fact that they have a very experienced staff. The Villages has 73,000 retirees and there is every talent in the world living here including semi retired radio people. They came from WBZ, WHP, 93KHJ (LA), WSB, and list goes on. Cities like
Cleveland, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Atlanta and you name it. Live weather from two retired NWS/TV mets....and #1 AM in the area. Unfortunately, any hiring is done right here. A fun place to work.

That sounds like a hoot! One of the joys of being a radio pro (hack?) is finding great radio where you least expect it.

Have you folks heard WRXB lately?

http://www.wrxb.us

That little old 1590 is now owned by a company called Polnet, and they are running local hosts..involving themselves in positive efforts in thier community and overall doing what radio SHOULD do. True nobody is getting rich, but it is about so much more than that when you take the big picture of WRXB. They moved to new studios and classed the place up so the people that work there now feel like they are in media instead of sitting, shirtless in that horrid, and hot transmitter building playng old-skool jams of cassettes and eating fried chicken.

NOW they have a real studio and an actual staff of jocks who relate not only to the music they play (Gospel, R&B and jazz) but relate to the listeners as well. They actually have a working and live streaming camera..and an active chat room. The hosts are encouraged to dress well, and look professional. They interact with the listeners, and they promote the clients that spend money on their station with suggestions to patronize them, and support the advertisers..

In an era where AM stations' licenses are being turned in and deleted in record numbers, it is SO refreshing to se a company and a staff of real humans run thier property to entertain, and interact with the listeners. Every one of the top 5 mega-companies could take a hint from them.
Back when WRXB was in the old place, I did an interview about preventing HIV/AIDS in the Minority communities. I was on the PM drive show
