just wondering, i have heard those purina dog food ads on a few stations,( and who can forget the "body solutions" craze a few years ago) and i was wordering how the pay works, does the host get a big percentage of the payment,or is it done totally through the station?

how about other "sponsers" and advertisers? i think i figured out that the host get cars or deals on cars to talk about dealerships, and i see that roda gets tickets to pump up merks tickets, but what kind of compesation does the station get for allowing a host to pimp a certain service or product?

Usually done through the station through sales. Otherwise, it's basically plugola. Gotta go through the correct avenues to make it legit and legal.

Compensation varies - sometimes it's the product (Brian & Joe driving a leased car that they're talking up for example, or a jock getting a Bose Sounddock for their Ipod for endorsing it) or it's money.

It is normally done through the station but I don't see how it would be plugola if it was done direct with the advertiser. The talent fee is for the endorsement, not the airtime. That's assuming it's a scheduled spot and you're not just giving them "product placement". It might well be in violation of company policy though since most stations have limited endorsement avails and charge a little a premium for the slot. If you do accept a fee from an advertiser, I'd be sure and tell the company in writing. You don't want to rely on the PD's recall when Eliot Spitzer's office calls (No wait, that's New York state, not Ohio)<P ID="signature">

Normally, a flat fee is paid through the station to the endorser.

Maybe in some small stations. Normally, that's a cash fee to the jock in addition to the use of a car.

The house madam, er I mean sales manager, normally requires a premium over the normal spot cost to get an endorsement avail.
