Anyone know where Geno Mitchellini is?

Just wondering. He was a good friend. Can't seem to find him!

I used to enjoy him years ago on KLOS in the afternoons, especially when he would play his Friday "Bang the Drum" sets, which allowed him to step out of the playlist and rock for about a half an hour with party tunes.

I think they brought him back a few years ago but it didn't seem to work out - he wasn't on very long.

Funny you mention him as I mentioned him on the Sound's forum after Andy Chanley played on his shift that Todd Rundgren song which Geno used to play at 4 pm each Friday. I also tried to find Geno on Google... There I did find a YouTube clip of Geno at The Ice House in July I believe.

Yeah SRF, I remember that post, but didn't want to elaborate since, after all, it should be more about Sound biz. I know someone had mentioned his partner at the IceHouse might know, but I didn't receive an answer...I guess I'll try again.

Didn't he used to be on KFI at one time, and if so, when was he on there?

Yes, he was on KFI. He did a weekend shift back in the 90's. I can't remember exactly when, but I'm sure it was after he left KLOS for the second to the last time. I used to listen to him on Earth Radio 102 KSFM-Woodland/Sacramento when I was in high school, so when he came to the old Ardmore building to work at KFI I got the courage up and introduced myself to him. He couldn't have been a nicer guy. He semed to get a kick out of my remembering that he was Gene Mitchell back then. It would be great to hear him on the radio again...

I think Geno was also on the air out in the Inland Empire at one point, I want to say KCAL.

I heard him the day he returned to KLOS. He seemed overjoyed. I wonder why he had to leave again.

Some of the funniest Geno moments were when Joe Walsh would drop in. Walsh was completely bonkers, almost incoherent - it was hilarious. At one point he even recorded a Geno Michellini theme song for him. It was kind of a polka with a chorus of "Geno Michelliniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii."

Funny you should mention this - I also almost posted about the times that Joe Walsh would actually substitute for him when he went on vacation. Joe would do this whole "Where in the world is Geno Mitchellini" thing, complete with comedy bits and calls from listeners. Considering Joe is not an experienced DJ (that I know of) it was pretty compelling fill-in work. Of course Joe is very funny in his own right.

Geno Michellini is alive and well. I have been enjoying my semi-retirement working from time to time with Jimmy Buffett on radiomargaritaville.com and building my own website to pay tribute to the great fm's of the late 70's early 80's. The days at KLOS, KFI et al were magic times in my life, but, sadly, those days are over. Thank you all for your interest and support. It was my listening audience that made every second of it worthwhile. I know I was one of the lucky ones. I had a great career in radio. [email protected]

I missed you! I will email you now that I have your info

Good to hear from you, Geno. I remember when you came to visit us El Camino college Journalism wannabes which led me to intern at 95.5 back in the day. I still have the picture of us when I was a 'Switchboarder' at KLOS 95.5 in the late 80's - I'll try to find it and send it to ya. Those were magical times, with you, Joe Benson and Michael Benner (So many great names - so long ago) Peace Bro' - Joe G in Redondo Beach
