Anyone need a Translator in the Dallas area?

What is a translator in Dallas worth? I have a friend that thinking of selling his instead of just getting operating costs. It's on the commercial band. I hear that AM's can be put on FM translators and even HD2's are being put on Translators. Anyone know of a small FM station far enough that doesn't reach Dallas that might be sold for a reasonable amount? E Mail me with ideas. [email protected]

What I need is a Spanish-to-English translator to ride around with me. That would open up 20-25 more choices on the AM-FM bands for me to listen to.

<feeling Bucwyl rolling his eyes about right now>

It seems that the FCC will allow HD-2 channels to be rebroadcast on an analog translator. At least Jim Bradshaw at the FCC has been quoted as saying it is OK.

If that is indeed so, between all the FM rim-shots, AM's with poor signals and the HD folks without enough radios to receive their HD channels, a commercial translator should be a hot property in DFW.

Except there are no freqs to put it on without compromising someone elses signal.

Is this an existing translator? The list of translators in the area is short - in fact Calvary Chapel has them all, I believe - 90.5 and 97.5. Maybe there are others I don't know about. The KLAK move-in pretty much wrecked that 97.5 translator's range to the North.

As far as HD-2's on a translator - given the dismal range of IBOC to begin with, HD-2's might only last a mile or two at most. Maybe even measured in blocks instead of miles. And if you fired up IBOC on 97.5, for example, some local guys on 97.1 and 97.9 might lose some of their HD range and complain.

There are a bunch of FM's that are rim shots - 92.9, 99.9, 102.5 would all be prime candidates for move-ins if all the conflicts could be resolved.

As far as low power rim shots, there are two 92.1's - one on each side of the area, and a 95.3. I bet 95.7 could be put on the list as well - if the pirates can be kept off the air with their wierd extremist talk.
