Anyone notice a difference with the Zone?

I stopped listening as much awhile ago but recently I've noticed quite a difference in the Zone's programming - a good difference. They actually seem to be featuring a broader playlist and more new music. I'm not hearing Daughtry every 3.5 hours... or maybe I am but the variety of other songs around it make it less obvious.

I had to laugh a bit with the introduction of the "Top 7 at 7". I understand they're wanting to implement benchmarks but stealing the name and concept (though not terribly original) from sister station KNCI is ridiculous. I'd guess Mark Evans wasn't too happy about that.

Though the listener sweepers and the DJ shuffle are frustrating, I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the programming. Could it be that the new PD has been given permission to do his job, free from the restraints of corporate and BK?

I have noticed the music is much better, the PD must be doing something right. But I agree with the inconsistancy of the jock lineup.
Had to stop listening in the morning when Shawn and the traffic gal where on. I'm wondering who the Zone is trying to go after demographically.. women 25+ or the 18 year olds. Although, I like Keith Brooks in the evening slot, his delivery has gotten much better and is more concise, and his humor fits the night slot where the youngin's hang out. Please... no more Brook whatever her name is.. she is hard on the ears.. Someone needs to hand her a California air check. Take some notes.

It looks like they only play new music now, no 90's at all, maybe one every hour, I don't like it

I heard a music montage sweep the other day. Good move, as hopefully this will help define their format - which in the past year has been a random mess. Seems like they might finally have a format in mind. I just hope they keep up with their imaging. The listener testimonials were so few that they became tired very quickly. Not a big fan of the male station voice but it's nice to hear more than just a female station voice.

Anyone know what's going on with the DJ shuffle? What's the official line up, if there actually is one?

I'm disappointed they dropped "The 90's, 2000's, and now". That was f-ing funny! Just listening to the air talent say it made me guffaw.

Who comes up with these bad ideas?

Judging by that station's track record across the tenure of several PDs, I'm guessing there's a well-worn Bad Idea Generator somewheres in that building.
