In over a year KXKC has fallen from 6.3 down to 3.7. In only one year. That's nearly half their audience.

Even KPEL 105.1 has passed KXKC up.

They seem like they are programming the same format of Country that they always have, so I don't know why they would fall so low. Are they having some kind of signal troubles? What in the world is going on?
 
Country music nationweide (redneck pop) is going downhill fast! They are losing more stations than an other format. People who like real country music dont listen. And if you pay close attention whats going on at KXKC is going on in a lot of markets. IE...The music sucks!
 
Smashed - it's not just the music. KXKC changed PDs last year. Their longtime PD, Renee Rivet, moved on. They brought in an inexperienced programmer, made her part of the morning show, and she's terrible on the air. The morning show is the worst in Acadiana. They don't know how to relate.

About six months or so ago, KXKC let go longtime midday personality Jimmi Foxx. They replaced him with the morning show producer who sounds like she is fresh out of high school. You can't lose a guy who's been there for 10 years and replace him

1) with a female voice

2) with a female voice who can't pronounce Cajun names and is unfamiliar with the area

3) just throw someone on there. It's coldwater in the audience's face.

Their afternoon guy sounds like he's on drugs.

They've also changed consultants.

The station has no energy.

Listeners are creatures of habit. Too many sudden changes leads to your worst book in 20 years. You're going to see it more and more across the country with all of the CC, and other companies, budget cuts. Look at WNOE. How do you fire your longtime PD and your legendary afternoon drive host, in 3 months and not go down?

KXCK is playing a lot of unfamiliar music, not relating to Acadiana, not doing any promotions or marketing, and have lost their way.
 
WOW! I had no idea they had done all of that! I dont listen. I havent listened to them since 98 or 99. About the time country music went downhill. How is the Dowg doing compared to 99.1?
 
Dawg is top 5 but still down by a point from spring book.

But remember a few things smashed... even though you may not like the country played, many of the women and such love the new country and that is where most of the fans come from. As nolaradiobuff said, you loose the people who made your sound ...you faulter, there are many stations that have proven that in Louisiana.

I don't get to listen to 99.1 like I used to, but I find the Dawg doing a better job as people said. I have nothign against a female voice, but as nola said, that's how you burn your listeners real quick away from you.. is to not know the area and can't pronouce most cajun names (lifetime locals will screw up one or two here or there however)
 
RFLA I know I dont like new country thats not why I said that. I saw on this board within the last few months about the decline of country radio and the loss of so many stations nationwide. It may have been a Taylor newsletter or it may have been on all access. Either way I read about the decline of country radio. So its not just at KXKC.
 
Many of the stars that would draw people to country I find are crossing over to the pop charts all the time, and I find that these stars aren't drawing them to country like it did say in the early part of the decade with say Toby Keith and Kenny Chesney.

I find every format ebbs and peaks, I mean we were pronouncing the death of new rock music 5 years ago and now every major market in Louisiana is running new rock.

Just like everything else, country radio will come back, the weak players will be eliminated (as their is an over saturation in some markets which I think some have hinted about, and my belief we are in a current ebb of country radio as I find people change their listening habits in relation to their current life situation)

But for a station to drop that much in a single year I trace back more to internal issues than external as country is still a strong format in Louisiana compared to say the North East US.
 
Yep, KXKC was at its peak when the likes of Renee Rivet and Scott Segraves walked the halls there. And I don't expect Renee to come back. I talked to her recently and she seemed very happy with what she's doing. Lets see, when Bonin sold the station to Citadel in 2003, the price was on the order of $7-8 million. What do you think Citadel would get for that station today?
