Anyone notice the change in branding on NBC this week?

Taking a page from ABC, shows are now referred to in promo's as NBC's THE VOICE, NBC's REVOLUTION, NBC's SVU etc and tagged with WATCH IT LIVE THIS WEDNESDAY AT 9.

So....it's gotten to where that *if* anyone is watching these shows, they don't even remember what network they are on?! ;)

Smart move considering that May sweeps starts today and the majority of markets are still stuck with Nielsen's ridiculous diary-only system. The diary methodology favors recall and branding...so reminding viewers of which network the show airs on makes sense.

ABC did "ABC's (name of show)" a few years back. It was meant to remind people that "Scrubs" had moved over from NBC, but they applied it to all shows that season.

I'm still waiting for "My Network TV's [name of program]"......

cd

The first time I heard "Watch It Live" I thought the show was live. But that's only done rarely. Like "ER", "30 Rock", "Gimme a Break" and an entire season of "Roc".

I thought this was going to be about the Peacock turning green. Though for "Hannibal" it turns red.

Sounds like they're trying to increase their daily "real-time" viewership, versus time-shifted DVR playback. I know "overnight" Nielsen's report "Live + Same Day" (I see the daily report at my TV station), but (correct me if I'm wrong) aren't the "+7" DVR numbers delayed until the end of the book?

"Will & Grace" did two shows-LIVE

From the Nielsen overnights software (Arianna), you can pull the "+7" numbers eight days after the original, "live" real-time airing.

For example: for a program that airs on 5/1, you can see overnights with "+7" viewing included on 5/9.

There is also a "+3" option available in Arianna, but for some reason it seems to take five days (instead of four days) for that data stream to become available.

BTW, it is possible to pull both "Live + Same Day" as well as the ridiculous "Live Only" data stream the next day. (I consider the latter to be a joke because anyone in the sample who is watching a show in real-time and pauses their DVR for more than 25 seconds - even if they never skip a commercial - is no longer counted in the "Live Only" rating for that program.)

When "the book" (the electronic version) is released, it is possible to obtain versions based on any or all of the aforementioned data streams - it depends on what the station subscribes to.

The long-antiquated actual "book" is now available as only as a PDF document (thankfully - not one tree should ever be sacrificed again to produce the hard copy version), and only with the "+7" data stream.

Thanks for clarifying. I think the information only strengthens my argument that NBC is trying to raise their "Live + same day" overnight numbers by encouraging their viewers to "Watch it Live (day)."

Great observation and I completely agree.

I think "Watch It Live" is the new "If you haven't seen it, its new to you!" that NBC used to throw at us back during the days of Must See TV.

I noticed the change too- and I guess you don't have anything to lose by encouraging live viewership. My biggest complaint about the DVR is that nothing- save for sports- is really "appointment" television anymore. Everyone turned out to see who shot J.R. in 1980 but no one turned out to see who shot J.R. in 2013.

This takes away from the communal effects of "broadcast" tv, when no one can stand around a watercooler and talk about TV because 80% of the people haven't seen the episode yet.

They're not saying "Watch it live" any more.

I watch one of those networks one hour per week, so I suppose I didn't really miss anything.

By the way, according to a TV trivia column I saw, the voice telling us to watch dramas live is Dorian Harewood. A different voice does comedies.

I too noticed they've dropped the "watch it live" but instead it's super redundant...NBC'S REVOLUTION, MONDAY AT 10 ON NBC.

They have a different voice doing reality/competition shows. I can't remember if it's the voice for comedy, but it's not Dorian Harewood.
