ANYONE OFF THE BEACH?

So did anyone who lost their job over the last year or so find other radio work?

Brian Mulhern doing traffic. That's all I can think of.

I think the beach is more crowded than ever. Whatever happened to Erica K? I know that she was down in Florida and wanted to move back up here. I don't know if she ever did.

she's still on the beach according to Facebook. Registered to attend Conclave conference in July in Minneapolis.

I had this strange but unfounded idea in my head that she would end up at Coast. Maybe it's because right around the time she left her last job in FL, Coast was running an ad for a morning co-host. But then as we all know that fizzled and they never hired.

she is joinging WDSP in Florida, which is starting up a very new and different approach to radio compared to traditional commercial radio. She is also expecting a child soon

WDSP is licensed to DeFuniak Springs. One of the last contestants this season on Deal Or No Deal was from there and commented that the most exciting thing that happens is lost dog announcements on the local radio station.

I hope the new and different approach to radio turns out better than the new and different approach called FREE FM.

yes, if you google Defuniak, it is a small town. There is a great new approach upcoming for independent artists. Anyone that has worked in radio has had that random local come to them at a remote saying "hey, my friend is in a band, can you play this CD?". And the answer is always no. Myspace has allowed artists like that to shine, and radio is now tapping into that. Stay tuned

Isn't that what college radio has always done. Played a bunch of unknowns? Plus according to Wikipedia this station is an AM station above 1200 on the dial. I'm all for new ideas, but this one sure sounds risky. Music on an Am station is risky to begin with. But then factor in that this small AM station is going to play artists never heard of before. Who knows? This business is full of surprises. It may just be crazy enough to work. What the hell do I know? Good Luck.

skynet---more research done on this new approach for WDSP from a statement from their new owners, ToneStac, based in CA

The explosion of user generated content surrounding interactive communities has opened new markets around the world. In response to pent up demand, ToneStac is the first company to create a market structure for the independent music industry where artists can feasibly selff-start a career process and operate vertically from the bottom up on your own terms rather than relying on a major label or broadcaster to let you into the system on their terms.

Reinventing radio
Tonestac creates resources to assist indy musicians build self-sufficient lifestyles within the music industry. ToneStac starts by reinventing radio. Offering radio access to any musician, for full length songs thereby replacing all commercial breaks. Streaming the live broadcast allows out of area musicians to time shift the value of late night programming into their daytime zones.
