Anyone out there own an HD radio?

> Someone told me WCRB is now running HD. Is it true?

It's true... the hash is there.

Greater Media must have recommended it to them or something.... I was told they were not in favor of installing IBOC until it was proven, but this was a couple years ago.

I believe that some of the "new administration" has already taken root, in preparation for the eventually banishment of the current format to the HD Radio abyss, a-la HD-2. Yes, the "hiss" is there in all of it's white noise glory. Jeff, are there still active 67 and 92 kHz SCA's on 102.5? Just curious. I'm sure the 57 kHz RDS would not be affected. But the SCA's, not so sure.

73,

Pete

Y'all still have analog tuning radios so you can hear the hash?

IBOC does not affect the SCA as the digital carriers (in the current hybrid mode) lie on either side of the analog carrier.

Yup, analog still sounds fine to me! If you'd like to give me an IBOC radio, I'm all for it, except I'd probably just smash it with a hammer once I got it.

FYI, He said "analog tuning" like dial tuning versus digital, not Analog audio processing.

If someone gives you an HD Radio and you want to smash it with a hammer, you have my email address, and other contract information. Just send it my way =)

I wasn't sure what he meant by that, because I certainly can hear the hash on any analog or digital tuning radio that isn't IBOC. I thought he meant that we wern't using IBOC radios.

Nah, if I was given an IBOC radio, I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that would appreciate seeing it destroyed. Maybe we could have some kind of ceremony up at Hosstraders or something. :)

Impressed with IBOC? Nah. Saw it, heard it and can wait a WHILE for the purchase of one. So that's what WBZ is feeding with the "hash". (YAWN!)<P ID="signature">______________

Are they running a secondary HD channel?

Interesting.

Thanks.

For the $500 an HD radio can cost, it would take me 38 1/2 months to offset the cost at the 12.95 I am happily paying for XM. There were too many reasons why I stopped listening to terrestrial radio and Eddie Boch commercials in HD isn't going to make me run back to it. Great, now I can pay $500 to listen to the same 5 songs every 2 1/2-3 hours just like I used to on stereo FM radio.

No thanks

I still cant get over some of you folks. Are you aware of how HD Radio is transmitted? Are you aware that on FM the HD Radio signal is ONE HUNDREDETH the power of the analog signal? In other words if your Class B is putting out 15000 w ERP the HD Radio signal is only 150 watts? How can a 150 w station be interfering with you monster analog FMs?

I have done a good amount of listenign and testing. I have been able to receive an ADJACENT station 90 miles away without any HD interference when I was about 20 miles from the local HD Radio transmitter. I get more garbage from the analog than I do the HD signal. Often I can hear the analog garbage on the adjacents than I can the HD signal.

So go and smash your HD Radios. Or send them to me. I have people that can use them. Go ahead and hide your head in the sand if you would like.

If you would stay on top of the situation, you would have known that JVC is coming out with a Mutlicast radio (car) for $299, the Boston Acoustics just dropped from $499 to $299. And so on....

And if you have stopped listening to terresttrial radio, how do you knwo what is going on in the market, and how does that make you a credible source for posting here?

I had the chance to listen to soem HD2 stations over the weekend. They sound great and I loved the choices. OK OK so there arent 150 different channels, but really how many channels do you really listen to on XM? ALL of them? or 5 or 6?
