We're all on Spring Break.......but if you really need something to talk about, whatever happened to the rumors about TED-FM going all talk?? Lets's "talk" about it.

Hopefully lack of followup on the Ted-to-talk rumor is confirmation that it's probably not in the cards. Has indeed been unusually quiet here, though.

One thing I've been wondering about...Reportedly, Wall Street pressures suggest station divestitures are imminent, so I wonder if CBS is finally going to put LVQ, HOK and AZU on the block as rumored awhile back. Then Columbus might finally lose its "distinction" as the largest market where only one company (CC, of course) owns more than a single true big-signal FM. LVQ is a great revenue generator though, so I could see why CBS might not rush into selling it.<P ID="signature">______________

That rumor obviously didn't come to fruition, but what about a WTVN show on XM? XM with Clear Channel is launching regional talk channels, and they are...

XM 134 - Northeast News & Talk
XM 135 - Southeast News & Talk
XM 136 - Middle America News & Talk
XM 137 - Midwest News & Talk
XM 138 - Northwest News & Talk
XM 139 - Southwest News & Talk

What WTVN show would you like to see on the Midwest Channel (which they would most likely end up on)? I think if WTVN had kept Steve Cannon, he would be a good show to stick on XM, but Joel or Corby would do well as well.

I'm not on spring BREAK, I'm on Spring BOOK! Happy Arbitrons to all!

OK, so it didn't. How about that "new WODB" post of mine below that never got responded to? Follow-up is not confirmation, and lack of isn't, either.

Isn't that a Radio One story from this afternoon's trades? How does non-strategic divestitures from Radio One transform into CRS Radio selling properties?

Yep, hence my qualifiers ("hopefully", "probably").

Actually, I never knew about the Radio One story. For several weeks now, Inside Radio has been speculating heavily that 2006 will the year station sales heat up again, with most of the big groups trimming away non-strategic properties. IR's quoted both Wall Street analysts and station owners, as well as doing their own speculation.

BTW, might that little typo near the end of your last sentence show that your heart is still with Country? ;)

Actually, the board has been a little quite lately...

I can't imagine that the divesitures with Radio One will affect Columbus much, I would bet that Springfield, Louisville and some of their stations that are not urban formatted might be up for grabs. They did just spend 18 million for a class A in Norwood (Cincinnati)

a better question, who might buy them, and the other stations other companies might be selling. is there a lot of money to buy those single or poorer signals. Is competition, or other companies large number of stations in a market going to keep the small operators out of decent sized markets? And what does "at the right price" mean?

On the subject of Radio One, they seem to be losing more than a few people locally lately, after seeming really stable for a while.

Those few people they have lost have moved to larger markets within the company.

Force of habit, I suppose, since I serve on the board of directors for Country Radio Broadcasters, Inc., the organizaton that hosts the annual Country Radio Seminar (CRS). I don't have the occasion to type CBS very often!
