Anyone remember David Paul?

I think he was a young talk show host on WSB in the early 90's. I was living in a downtown condo for work reasons at the time and I would wake up in the middle of the night and listen to his show. He really did talk local stuff. He talked to late-night parking lot atttendants, strippers, bartenders, etc. Spooky but neat.

Why the heck do radio stations think we want recorded shows from Dave Ramsey, Neal, Sean, etc etc. ?

Remember him well and fondly. He was one of the guys (along with Gary McKee) that WSB hired to wrench the station away from the stale MOR music and antiquated talk that they had done for years. Then came Boortz and Clark Howard and the NewsTalk 750 powerhouse was born.

David was an interesting character and I lost many hours of sleep that I desperately needed thanks to him. :) He was hysterical at times, confrontational at others and he could dial it back and be very serious and introspective when times called for it. WSB should have left him in the middle of the night instead of foolishly moving him to the 12noon to 4pm slot.

They don't think we want it, but they figure if that's all they shove down our throats that we'll accept it as standard operating procedure.

I think that the last time I heard David paul on WYXC-AM in Cartersville, he was interviewing a couple of deer from Red Top Mountain State Park.... That was followered by an interview with the Cartersville Town Drunk... etc....

I remember WSB's prime time lineup very well back just before Desert Storm when they had, I believe, Mr. McKee
doing drive time, and then Wes Minter from 8-Midnight then David Paul at midnight.

One of the funniest shows he did that I still remember to this day was during December 1990 when he discussed
Christmas and how the holiday was just for children. Needless to say, he ruffled some feathers that night!

I "remember him well and fondly" also. He is possibly mentally unstable but that makes for good radio. I remember when Bobby Harper beat him silly for comments David Paul made about his sidekick. That was a memorable event in the history of WSB. Bobby got fired after that I believe. I think the most accurate discription of David Paul comes from the website of the station he is currently employed:
"Quirky...Dumb...Strange...Weird...Different...Unique..."
That is dead on.

In 1992, I called in on WSB and told him the famous words "up it Dave"

WSB AM was sucking wind back then, and sent out a cassette tape promoting their lineup of wonderful top notch programming to people all over Atlanta. "Off the Wall with David Paul" was on there, with excerpts of his fecal vomit sessions.

"Thanks for the call Eric..."
UP IT DAVE!! I exclaimed.

Everyone in my high school (Campbell) got that tape and I never could live that down.

David Paul..was ahead of his time alright. When I was in Tampa Bay Bob Neil ran some programming from WIOD Miami..and at times ran WSB stuff including David Paul..

Isn't he the one who always said.."UNbelievable"

Horrid voice..but the lineup on WSUN at the time was..

Bob Lassiter AM Drive
Neil Rogers (WIOD)
Rick and Suds (WIOD)
Phil Hendry (WIOD? WSB? not sure)
David Paul (WSB)

Really interesting mix of talk then..

Funny how about once or twice a year D.P.'s name comes up exactly like this in this forum. "Does anyone remember....?"

Yeah, I remember listening to him when I had first moved here and found him 'entertaining'.
I heard a rumor that he got his start in - I think - Florida? - when he called into a local talk show there and bitched about how he could do better than the host, who then challenged him to come down to the station and prove it. And supposedly he did.

That, however, could be nothing more than urban legend.

That was Lionel's deal. (most recently Air America) He was a law student at Stetson University in Gulfport, Florida..called the Lassiter show nearly every day as "The Gulfport Attorney" and Lassiter told him if he could do better..then come apply for a job. I remember doing the promos for WFLA in Tampa for Lionel's first appearance as a weekend talk host.
