Anyone remember Larry Mendte fondly?

Always a wacky guy, the most memorable time I can think of is when he talked about Stan Miller being referred to as a "Stud Muffin" by some local radio show during his weather segment. Stan was visibly embarrassed, it was hilarious. He always tried hard to be a funny weather guy and I sort of thought he might turn out like David Letterman who was also a wacky weatherman at one time. I can't picture him breaking into some woman's email repeatedly to sabotage her career. With this scandal, he's like that late night wacko that was on KUSI back in the 80's and got busted in Florida for sex with a minor. I guess he probably won't end up doing jail time, but his career is over.

Kinda sad, I actually enjoyed him, but also thought KFMB needed a real weather-cast. Now they have an actual "meteorologist."

Using someone else's computer to deface them? If it's true (and I sure hope it isn't) it's pretty sleazy.

re: KFMB needed a real weather-cast.

Since when does San Diego need a "real" weather forecaster? How difficult is it to say "night and morning low clouds with highs in the mid-70s?"

As Larry Himmel used to say (paraphrasing), "You know, somewhere along the way, you've made a bad career move if you're 40 years old and you (A) still wear a name badge to work or (B) are a weatherman in San Diego."

The local weather segment is three minutes of fluff.

Ok, that was just my opinion, you don't have to agree with it. Perhaps "need" was too strong a word, sorry.
But, when it is an El Nino year, it is nice to know if and why it is going to rain.
As I recall, Channel 8 used to get angry letters from viewers about the weather coverage.

I suppose "need" wasn't the word...
But even in San Diego, a little rain does fall. Sometimes, too much!

This is a radio discussion, how?

Because television is just radio with pictures, even though the creators of the Tele Tubbies convinced everyone to use their version of the medium's name instead of the term Radiovision favored by inventor Charles Francis Jenkins: I thought everyone knew that ::)

Larry and the guy from Who Wants To Marry A Millionaire did a local comedy show back in the 80's. I think it had a pretty good local following for awhile. They were Biff and Skippy

That was Larry Himmel who spent six years at KGB before getting into TV (now that has to do with radio....)

Yes indeed, Larry Mendte wasn't in San Diego until much later.

Wrong Larry.

No, I had the right Larry, I just didn't specify which one so it looks confusing I guess.

When Larry called Stan a stud muffin, the station recieved about 200 calls from irate little old ladies. I know. As intern, I had to answer the damn phones.

Larry is still innocent until proven guilty, so the rest of the accusations and talk are just that.

Don't confuse judicial rules with the facts - the court of public opinion is not bound by technicalities. :)
