Anyone remember QUBE TV in Houston?

Back in the days before Warner Amex Cable you had QUBE television.

It was the first Cable television offering in Houston.

I would say it was employed during the late 70s.

Their competitor would be Phonoscope (now Grande)

Qube lasted until 1986, as you got Viewers Choice 2 only on QUBE.

Is it true that in one time in Houston you had to have a converter box for every TV set because all the channels were scrambled?

I remember my grandparents telling me that, until I showed them the box wasn't necessary.

I don't recall if if it was the Houston system or not but I believe there was a television show in the 70's (I think it may have been Real People with Bill Rafferty and Sarah Purcell) that use to do audience polls on the Qube system.

Actually, it was its spinoff, "Speak Up, America!", that used responses from QUBE systems in Columbus and, I think, Cincinnati, for its live polls. The show was co-hosted by Jayne Kennedy and Marjoe Gortner, with MAD-man Sergio Aragones doing illustrations related to the night's subjects.

We had QUBE in Pittsburgh. I remember a nightly game show where their subscribers in Pittsburgh,
Columbus, Cincinnati and Houston would compete against one another in a trivia contest for
hometown bragging rights. Since this almost mirrored the then-AFC Central Division it was pretty
popular in Pittsburgh.

Are you thinking of "How Do You Like Your Eggs"? It was on QUBE in Colombus, OH, and hosted by the Dean of Game Show Hosts, Bill Cullen: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_Do_You_Like_Your_Eggs?

No, I am thinking of the QUBE TV in Houston that had Viewers Choice II in 1986.
On my Warner Channel Lineup recorded back in October 1986, it featured the channel VCII (Qube Only) ch 36 on the channel lineup with KODA FM broadcasting the Houston Oilers in Audio.

Thanks for the answer to that head scratcher for me! Boy, that brings back memories ... and makes me feel old, too!
