Anyone remember Randy Wagner in Jackson?

I understand he passed away sometime in the '80s. Anyone know the cause?

I worked with Randy here in Monroe, La. at KMLB and KNOE, and he was a great wit and a smooth jock. Last I heard, he was doing one of the very first voicetrack systems using tape automation at an FM in Jackson, but he had the chops to make it sound live. He used an airname in Jackson, but I have no clue what it might have been.

Any details would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Jeff "JJ" Jasper
(The real one, not the JJ Jasper who's somehow enamoured with my name and does Christian.)

sorry, don't know Randy.... but J J Jasper with AFR is really named JJ Jasper as well.

I did know a smooth sounding jock who moved to Tupelo in about 1992 from Monroe.

He later moved to New Orleans and died shortly after that.

I think he passed much more recently-like 6-7 years ago. I worked with him as Rich Allen at the now defunct 94TYX..where they undeservedly fired the guy and again at 62.JDX.

I worked with Rich Allen in 82-84 at WJDX.
He was a nice guy. Had a wife and a couple of kids. Unlike some of the other regulars, he was nice to me. Even if I was a stupid kid.

The name Rich Allen rings a bell. I think I met him when he was doing a remote for 94 TYX and then a few weeks later I heard him doing a remote for Z106. This had to be over ten years ago. If I am thinking of the right person, he was a nice guy, and wore eyeglasses with a pretty think lens.

Thanks all. Yeah, Randy Wagner ("Rich Allen") was a totally nice guy with thick tinted glasses, and his blonde wife Sharon was very sweet. Good friends. I do recall now that he worked at TYX and JDX, but I'm surprised he'd get blown out of either. Don't know about Majic, but it's a possibility. I had gone back to college and then moved out west during those years.

Anybody recall what might have happened?

Thanks to all!

JJ

Does anyone know if by chance the was the same Rich Allen that worked afternoons at Magic 93.7 in Biloxi during there first couple of years?

I remember him very fondly!

Hi! I know this is an old thread, but it is new for my family! I am Emily, Rich's middle child. My nephew ran across this thread recently. My mom, sister, and I were looking at the comments and reminisced.

To give a solid answer, my dad passed away May 2002 of a massive heart attack. He is buried outside Springfield, Missouri. His last radio station was 94.7 in Jackson, MS. The name changed so often while he was there that I don't recall what it was when he passed away. He also worked for 106.7, Fox 40, and 16 WJTV. I remember him working for Jitney Jungle as a produce (I think) when I was a child. There was also another station that he worked at, but I don't recall the call numbers.

I am one of 3 children surviving him. My birth was actually announced over the radio in Monroe 38 years ago. I am the middle child. Many of you may remember my sister as well. She was almost 2 at the time of my birth. We moved to Jackson when I was about 3 or 4. I also have a brother that is 7 years younger than I am.

My sister has 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls. The older girl was born exactly 4 months after our dad passed away. She is so much like him at times!

My brother doesn't have children at this time. He wanted to follow in our dad's footsteps, but he took another path.

I have one child. She's named after him and my mom. Dad's middle name was Alan (radio was spelled Allen), and her name is Alana. She is going to be 5 years old in a couple short months.

If anyone would like to ask questions about him, please feel free to ask. Also, please, if you happen to have any pictures or air clips, please contact me! I would LOVE to hear his voice again! I am a member on the Monroe broadcasters Facebook page, as is my mom. You can find us on there if you'd like.

I hope you all have a great day!
