that was really when indy chr radio was really good......

Yes I remember those 2 stations.

I can't remember if Kiss 99 was owned by Taft at that time but for some reason it comes to my mind. If so that was back around the time when Randy was running WKRC and WKRQ for Taft in Cincinnati.

Cecil Heftel owned it. Worked at Kiss 99 which became "The New WIKS" then Indyz Apple WZPL. Heftel was ,arried to the Dole heir? Always got Macadamia nuts on my birthday.

When Smash left WNAP it had already had it's best days. WIKS was really neat as CC Matthews was PD, just coming from one of my all time favorite stations "JJ 100" in Louisville. 2 sets of jingles. They discovered it sounded like "kid dynomite" and changed it to KJ 100. Bumper Morgan did mid days. Excellent station. Lateral replays on the AM.

The music at the time was not being played here or in Ky. Some really rockin things like Led Zepplin in through the out door, Stairway to heaven, Gimme 3 steps, etc. Top 40 with "Mo" Mentum. Thanks E and CC!

Amen...good radio. It was partially a battle with WNAP, but WNDE was still in the race as well.

KJ-100 was such a good chr,,, its now Wdjx, it remains one of my fav stations, but I just cant seem to pick it up in morgan county except for a few tropo times in the summer, I get other louisville stations here, mainly kiss 98.9 and `100.5 The new gen x radio, which btw, thats an idea for the track.

Wnap was good when it came back with all 70s music, and their classic rock format was cool too, nice to have that station back, I was sad to see it go even though ive always liked Wnou.

Wzpl Indys Apple, and Wdjx Louisville were class act chrs in the 80s and early 90s, the dance music, the hair metal, and the ballads and pop on one station.. wzpl started going down hill around 1996..

I wasn't sure, did Great American buy it afterwards? I know Booth American Broadcasting owned them like in the late 80's or early 90's.

What broadcaster does E stand for that you list next to CC?

Other good top 40 stations was WYHY Y 107.5 and WWKX Kix 104.5 in Nashville. Those stations really got out, back then heard them here at times. WWKX came in over 104.5 in Indpls.

Thanks CC and Cit.

E. Alvin Davis - Creator of "Mo". CC - Promoter of "Mo".

I don't know who owned it after that but I haven't gotten Macadamia nuts in a few years.
