Does anyone remember WOTW FM 106 in Nashua? I worked weekends there in the early 80's with Daniel T. Guy, Matt Stevens, Bill Trembley and others. The station was run on a shoe string, but we had lots of fun.
I never heard the station, but in my Portland days I was casually acquainted with a guy who worked at WOTW (can't recall his name). He didn't particularly like the place.
I had a good laugh when I once asked him if the call letters stood for anything. His response: "Yeah, 'Wish Our Transmitter Worked.' "
I don't know if I'd use them as a poster child for "good local radio". Didn't they get into hot water for some sleazy billing practices that ultimately cost them their license?
What was it about Nashua radio that made it so bush-league sounding? Second-largest city in the state but neither WOTW nor WSMN were ever very good sounding stations. It really wasn't until the late 80s when 106.3 was resurrected as B-106 that professional radio came to the Gate City.
It may be the 2nd largest city in the state, but NH is a small state as a whole. Especially 20 years ago. Not a lot of money to go around to attract bigger talent.
Dan, Matt and Bill all moved on to WZID didn't they? As I recall all are pretty solid talents and good guys. At least something good came out of that hell hole~!
