Anyone think Jack is sounding slightly different and better? Anyone even care?

Has anyone been listening to Jack in the last few weeks? I think it sounds a heck of a lot better. Looking at their playlist, it
seems to have moved more 80's to current and let go of a little of the traditional 200 classic hits/rock for 97.1 and 105.9.
This is exactly why Jack should be strong. It can evolve and re-invent itself. The website is a pretty decent these
days, as well.

Tibbs, I agree. A few weeks ago I posted something along the lines that 97.1 and 105.9 are direct competitors to each other (heritage formats). Jack, with its current and recent adds, appears to compete more with "the listen you listen to while at work" station while maintaining its 80's and 90's base.

Although it's an unfair fight. I can stand to listen to John Boy & Billy. Bob & Tom make me reach for the dial. And it's really not much competition when it comes to the local personalities, either, because 105.9 has them.

if you wanta hear a creative Jack station (weird, huh?)...try
www.931jackfm.com
KCBS-FM has live bodies cutting up calls and matching Jack liners to songs.

Listening lately, I must admit jack has started to come around. I think it's because they are at their full staff now. I heard moose was doing pretty much everything for 5 months. They're imaging has been freshened up regularly too. On a side note: What really must suck, is to be a (and I use this term lightly) "personality" in this town and to be beat (ratings wise) by a machine.

Oh and romer, I hear LA's Jack has a staff bigger than WSIX, The Rock and The River Combined. The staff at SCC Jack is 2 1/2 full timers and a promotions person.

I have noticed that Jack is different. It's different in that they are playing more contemporary hits rather than 70's and 80's hits. But, all they play and all any other non-satellite radio stations plays are hits. Hits and Bits!!! Morning Zoo!! Mayhem in the morning!!! All of it sucks and the monontony and the predictability are the reason I am now a loyal XM subscriber. I'd rather pay $12 per month to hear a wide variety than the crap that's available on local radio.

perhaps your brush is just a bit too broad? so you think all non-satellite radio features a "Morning Zoo"?
yeah...how about that zany wake-up zoo-crew on WPLN? they're crazy!
and BTW, satellite radio isn't an exclusive club: we get it...you have XM. impressive.

He does define a large percentage of radio these days. The question is, do you "get it" that the piece of pie is getting smaller and smaller and smaller because of all the options like XM. Sure - it will never take over, but who would have ever imagined paying for cable/satellite TV? What ever happened to the network news ratings anyway? Didn't a thing called cable give the viewer other places to turn to?

Nock

Nock...you're correct about the pie getting smaller (and all the rest): I was just
trying to stir up the hornet's next over the "terrestrial = morning zoo" radio comment.
There's only so much audience to go around...and LOTS of choices.
